Too late, the melody is over
The joke seems to be on me cos I'm the one not laughing
Down here on the floor
Deflate, the mystery of living
In the most heartless fashion I could ever Imagine
No pretense of decor
Another place and time, without a great divide
And we could be flying deadly high
I'll sell my soul to dream you wide awake
Closing his eyes, he allowed the sounds and smell of the land around him permeate through his senses and struggled to still his racing heart. He could hear the water running down the river, a passing eagle squeaking overhead, the animals running free on the woods and Brogin hurling his hoof to the ground in anticipation.
The warm rays of the setting sun caressed him with its warm light and the Fae warrior smiled. This great forest had been his home since he had taken a mortal woman for his wife. He could still sense her perfume in the air and hear her laughter carried by the wind and in some manner it brought him a measure of comfort before he started on the journey he was about to undertake.
Since that fateful day of her passing, Dalen Ahriman had vowed never to cross the boundaries of his realm into the mortal realm again. He had laid down his sword and chosen to lead a simpler life, of a farmer and a hunter out on those blessed lands and so he remained for centuries with the faithful winged horse Brogin by his side.
No war had ever rattled him like the one he was to undertake, but his honor bound him to take every action within his grasp to prevent the coming of a war that could bring misery to many in the realm.
It was upon his head to make the sacrifice required and leave the land that made him feel safe and at peace. To cross over to the other side and discover if there was any truth to the rumors that events taking place within the mortal realm were responsible for the Seelie and Unseelie rulers disappearance.
And so he allowed his conscience to stretch out, to cross the boundaries of his physical body and tap into the magic within. Already he could feel the world shifting around him, the tall trees that he loved giving space to steel and concrete and alien and mechanical sounds reaching his ears.
Exhaling the air in his lungs, the warrior dared to open his eyes and glance into this strange realm of mortals.
It was then that a strange loud noise reached him and turning around he was faced with an unfamiliar yellow beast with a thunderous roar, its eyes glowed with an evil bright light. Drawing his sword, Dalen pierced the beast’s head with a swift blow, and smoke emanated of the wound before the thunderous howl was silenced.
From inside the defeated yellow monster, a human jumped out and took off in a mad dash without bothering to thank the warrior from saving him from his captivity.
Such a strange realm those of the mortals.
