There was a burning furnace of regret and anger burning inside the Spartan with the intensity of a thousand suns. Theron blamed Ares as much as he blamed himself for Alexis death. He had committed a crime and nothing seemed able to make him believe otherwise, and the punishment for it was fitting. Such an act couldn’t be forgotten or forgiven.
It had been his own sword that had ended her life, by his own hand that had destroyed the one ray of hope that had him looking forward in life.
When Roxy touched his shoulder, his first instinctive reaction was to pull away and leave, but he remained still, took some deep breaths to calm himself and look back to her.
“It isn’t your fault, it is mine. What I did can never be erased, no matter how much I wish. You asked why I can’t die…it is my penance, to live forever with the memory.”
No, the fifty years of being crow food weren’t enough.
He wasn’t willing or looking forward to tell this woman what his crime had been. Theron was sure there would be judgment in her eyes if he did and that they would condemn him. She was the first person that he had allowed himself to share some part of his story with.
He wasn’t looking for absolution from this meeting, but for some reason he was for the first time breaking out of his shell and letting someone in the world know of his passing so that he wouldn’t be a mere shadow anymore.
And with that he had much to contemplate on. In his mind he could sense Draco approaching, his friend required a meeting…it seems the two of them had much to adjust to this new era.
“I believe this is my time to go, try to not die?”
And with what barely passed for a smile, the immortal was on his way.
