I've gone for too long Living like I'm not alive So I'm going to start over tonight Beginning with you and I When this memory fades I'm gonna make sure it's replaced With chances taken, hope embraced And have I told you? I'm not going 'cause I've been waiting for a miracle And I'm not leaving I won't let you, let you give up on a miracle When it might save you
How was it that a girl could be lonely even surrounded by a throng of beings?
Seated on a crystal throne inlaid with diamonds and gold, Marissa Skye gazed at those around her and wondered what the hell she'd gotten herself into by agreeing to this fiasco. Talk and raised voices assailed her ears and she was quickly growing tired of all the subtle digs cast her way and the assessing looks that she'd caught. Life had been so much simpler when she'd just had to deal with ONE person trying to kill her... Now, she had no doubt that a number of these "light" creatures would do away with her if given the opportunity.
Yeah, she was Miss Popular these days, for sure. It was so wonderful to be loved.
NOT!
Ever since she'd ascended the crown, she'd become increasingly aware that the court was uneasy about it at best and hostile at worst. Which was just to damned bad for them because she was here to stay and no self important fairy boy was going to dethrone her. She hadn't out witted Evan for years to let Tinkerbell get the best of her! No way, Jose'!
As another loud argument over battle strategies rang out, the petite blond suddenly had had enough. Rising quickly to her feet, she looked her advisers' square in the face and raised a hand. Startled expression's crossed their fine features and as one they all fell silent and stared at her in expectation. She might be unwanted but she was still their queen, after all.
"You all seem to think that just because I'm half human that I'm dimwitted. I assure you... that is not the case. I'm fully aware that the Dark king has declared war on our court but you all underestimate the power I hold. I'm not merely a pretty figurehead for you all to pat when its convenient. If its a fight the King wants.. Then it will be I who fights it...After all, it is I who have done the UNTHINKABLE and failed to bow like a simpering little ninny." she said with a mocking little shudder. "It is I that he wants revenge upon and he's simply going to have put on his big girl pants and get over it. Your job is simply to shore up our defenses and make sure the guards warding our boundaries are secure. No evil powers must be allowed to touch our shores."
Then, leaving them staring after her in bemusement, Rissa turned and walked from the throne room. As soon as she reached the doors, she heard the muttering start and she sighed. No doubt, they were aghast at what she'd just said but she couldn't bring herself to care. She was done making nice and it was time to start asserting herself.
For the moment though.... A major migraine had taken up residence in her head and she needed some quiet time to herself. Thankfully, she wasn't expected anywhere for the next few hours so she decided to take a walk in the forest to clear her mind. A quick glance around showed that no one was paying her any attention so she tiptoed out of the sight of her Fae guards and then slipped happily into the woods.
YESSSSSSS!! FREEDOM AT LAST!!!
With a new skip to her step and lightness to her carriage, Rissa hurried away from the main court. Soon, she found herself happily alone in a green forest full of life and bustling activity. Animals stopped to greet her and tiny fairy folk bobbed and danced with musical greetings. Her laughter floated behind her as she conversed with the creatures and then found herself lead to a huge waterfall with a large, private swimming hole.
"OH!! This is perfect!" she exclaimed as she dipped a toe in the water and smiled at the otter who played in the depths.
A tiny little pixie trilled and fluttered about her head as it told her about the former queen and this place being her favorite too.
"Well, I can see why... Thank you so much, my friend" Rissa sang back before glancing around. "I think that I would like to take a swim. Would you do me the honor of being my look out?"
When the pixie agreed, the little queen smiled and waited until she was alone before slipping from her clothing. Feeling unbelievable free for the first time in weeks, she daintily stepped up on to a huge boulder and then dove into the blue crystal water. Instantly, the cool refreshment swept over her and she came up to the surface with a laugh of pure joy.
Maybe being Queen really did have its perks after all!
Determined to enjoy this break from reality to its fullest, Marissa swam and swan until her muscles were tired and her body felt water logged. Then, she moved to shallower depths and let the sun filtering down through the boughs play over her skin.
Leaning on a rock, she tilted her head back and let thoughts of Corbin intrude on her relaxed mind. Even as anger surged once more, she found herself wondering where he was... what he was doing... If he'd taken another woman into his bed... A frown flickered over her features at that thought.... She'd skin any other woman alive that dared so much as touch him.
So lost in her thoughts was she that Marissa didn't notice the sudden quietness of the woods around her or feel the vibe of power that steadily intruded.

Fear was almost tangible in the room, as almost a hundred bodies packed themselves into the obsidian throne room of the Dark Court. It swirled around them all, standing in the back and glaring at those too stupid to recognize its face, and intensified when a man dressed in furs rose to his feet and stood before the gathered fae.
Corbin smirked as a ripple of unease rose through the crowd, eyes closing briefly in utter bliss. Gods, there was nothing like the feeling of utter nervousness to make a man feel as if he’d been bathed in power, and he basked in the feeling. It wouldn’t last long, he knew, given the jealous, angry faces around him. He would have to show the gathered men who their true leader was, marriage to the Light Queen or no.
The next hour was spent doing his normal methods of obtaining respect from those around him; torture, mayhem, bloody death. He beheaded a few of the courtly fops who’d fought against Baden and his enemy, threatened the others, and made them promises of war. It was only through the latter, that those old, evil faces wore the same expression as he, and, so he thought, everyone left happy.
There was nothing like a war to set off a reign of terror, he thought with a grin, leaning back on his crystalline throne. The others would be trying to overthrow him and get what they thought was ‘theirs,’ and this was only the beginning of a world full of paranoia…but he knew that it was worth it. Finally, FINALLY, after so many centuries, he had gained what he knew he’d deserved.
Power. A kingdom of his own. And oh, the fun he was going to have, shaping it into his image.
Leaning back on his throne, he steeped his fingers against his chest and stared out into the darkened lands through a window opposite him. There was only one thing missing, he thought with a growl, practically coiling like some venomous snake. Only one thing that could make this lifelong victory seem as victorious as it should:
Marissa Skye. But she was lost to him now, wasn’t she? His face darkened as he imagined that laughing, cherubic face looking at one of her own kind with that…loving adoration she’d shown him. Had she ever truly loved him? Was that even possible, if she had so obviously never accepted his true nature? He gritted his teeth against that familiar wave of anger and pain that rose up in his chest, causing his father’s insanity to knock on the doors of his prison. He needed a clear head, if he was to survive here, he thought with a growl. The Dark Court wasn’t filled with frightened post-change humans, but true blooded, old Fae who had lived through the previous king’s reign and knew all the tricks.
He had to go back to the man he had been, before he’d met her…because, if he didn’t? He wouldn’t live to see another day.
And he had too much to accomplish before he died. His name would live on in history, just as his father’s had; that he would make sure of.
…But none of those thoughts had him craving her any less; had him wishing that she were in his arms and at his side. Perhaps…perhaps he could have her, just one last time? Just see her face and hear that voice…even if it were used to condemn him. There was something inside that wouldn’t let him let her go, making him a slave to addiction.
So, it was quite unsurprising when Baden sauntered up to where the Queen of the Light Court sat contemplating. Serving as general for the old king, he recognized the almost instinctive need that each monarch had toward the other, and was unfazed when The Ursurper, as Corbin was coming to be referred to in his home, demanded that he take a small troop of Were’s and retrieve his mate. In truth, Baden had been just as captivated by the fiery Queen as the others had, and curiosity had him willingly taking on the task.
It was a game that the old pair had played, he recalled with a fond smile. Ever so often, the old King had tried to steal away his Queen, and in turn, she would do her best to resist. It would be so much fun to force the blond beauty to his whim.
And my, my, he could definitely appreciate why the current King coveted his woman so much. While he was unnoticed, Baden couldn't help but take in an eye full, before dramatically ambling over with his hand draped across his eyes.
“Such a beautiful place, is it not?” He drawled, stopping only a few feet away from where the woman lay. The Were soldiers had spread out, making a formidable perimeter, in case the Fae Queen tried to run. Those of the opposite court had no powers in her lands, true…but brute force could be used to subdue her nonetheless. Standing idly before her, his hand still clasped around his closed eyes, he managed a smile.
“But I must say…not as beautiful as you are, my lady. I don’t know if we’d been introduced before. My name is Baden Galaro and I was the Head General to the previous Dark King. The Urs…ah, that is, the current monarch requests your presence in his chambers.” ---
((Heya, boo! I hope this works; I had the sudden urge to write in Baden instead of Corbin, 'cause I could imagine him getting killed by her soldiers when they start their scream fest. XD ))

There's a lot of pretty boys wrapped around the block Don't be wastin my time with your crazy talk If you wanna get a piece of this heart of mine Boy,stop Get in line, get in line
To say that Rissa was shocked when the sound of a male voice rang out over the clearing was putting it mildly. One moment, she was relaxing against a rock and the next she was toppling off her perch and into the waters below. Barely having had time to gasp a breath before she hit, she was no doubt breathless as she came to the surface and promptly squeaked at the man standing there.
Oh yes, there was no sophisticated reproach from her lips. It was definitely a squeak. ...Much to her mortification.
In fact, she was still so stunned to see anyone there that she allowed herself to sink back down below the waters surface in order to gather her thoughts. Not that it did much good. A quick skimming of her body assured her she was still naked as a jaybird and there was a strange MAN standing by her clothing!
Damn it... It was like the first time all over again. How did she keep getting herself into these predicaments again? She was quiet sure she'd at least been DRESSED the last time Corbin had sent someone to kidnap her.
If this was indeed a kidnapping....
Finally unable to avoid it any longer, the beautiful young fae queen broke the surface and glared out over the water to the invader. She was slightly mollified to find him covering his eyes and it made her brave as she scooted towards the side of the pond and edge up on solid ground.
Damn it... he was still to close to her clothing! If she got near enough to grab it.. He could grab her! That would never do.
Frowning, Rissa shot the man another glance and then debated. Her eyes searched the wooded area around them and instantly knew they were not alone. Her pixie friend was nowhere to be seen and that suddenly infuriated her. Had he harmed her new little friend? If he had, he was going to PAY and pay DEARLY.
Summoning up a light edge of power, Rissa called to the beasts and insects of the forest and soon found a soft silk robe on the ground before her. Being one of nature, the new queen was learning that if she asked the right way, anything she needed would appear if it could be made from natural origins. The robe might not be true clothing, persay, but it was covering and that was all that mattered.
Sliding forwards, she leaned down and snatched it up. Slipping quickly into the thin covering, she ignored the fact that it became as wet as she and simply belted it over her slim form. Anything was beter than being at the disadvantage this fool had put her in!
"YOU! How dare you come here!! And what have you done to my pixie? If any harm has befallen him I'm going to make you wish your father had never looked at your mother with a twinkle in his eye!" she declared regally, giving the general a look that glimmered with suppressed power. "And just to set things straight... Your little game here today is only successful because I fully intend to tell Corbin that you were playing the Peeping Tom and spying on me! That and because I happen to wish a word with HIM also!"
Storming forward, Rissa tossed her long wet hair and hide an inner smirk when it sent arcs of water splattering on his front. Only then did his words seem to catch up with her reactions and she stopped directly before him and bit her lip.
"Wait a moment.... You think I'm beautiful? You don't think I'm strange looking because I'm half human? You don't think my ears are to rounded or my body is to rounded? Because.. thats all I've heard since I've arrived in this confounded place! Would you believe that I actually used to be considered PRETTY? I swear.. its enough to give a girl a complex!" she confided, completely turning the subject. "But in all fairness... I'm not the ONLY half mortal to step into the Fae world! Even the great book states that... The whole prophecy thing revolves around the need of human blood to keep the walls between the realms warded and protected. So what in tarnation is the big flipping deal about me being a half blood when obviously my fae blood is stronger? Can you tell me that??"
Stomping her little foot, Rissa was working herself into a temper tantrum but over something that was entirely beside the point.
"Oh.. never mind. I'm sure you have better things to do than listen to my troubles.. Now, where were we again? Oh yes, Corbin's little summons. Doesn't he know that a politely worded note would have done just as well? Ok, maybe not but he could have at least tired, right? Because I'm really getting tired of his high handedness. "Marissa do this!" "Marissa don't do that"! You'd think he would have learned the FIRST time I left his snarly self."
Sighing, the little Queen shrugged and then beamed up at him.
"So.... Shall we get on with this? I'll forget that you were spying on me if you forget about my little tirade just now.Deal? Deal! Lets be off then!" she finished with a nod, waiting expectantly.

Good Gods, the woman knew how to scream. Behind his hand, Baden’s eyes popped open in surprise as the Queen began to first berate him, then speak to him as if he were some cherished friend. The dicotemy was almost…scary, he thought with a little gulp. The past Light Fae Queen had been dainty and soft spoken, but this one? She was like a little girl who’d eaten too many sweets; constantly bouncing from thought to thought, like lightning.
Oh, how the worlds were going to change with these two at its throne! Baden was hard pressed to decide if the realization was good or bad.
Hearing her remove herself from the water and dress, the General slowly uncovered his hand…and instantly wished he hadn’t. Well, didn’t that sheer cloth leave nothing to the imagination? For a moment, he seriously considered going back and killing Corbin, if only for the right to bed the stunning woman before him. Oh yes, the kingdom would be his quite soon, he was sure of that. Would she accept him, when he took the throne? Or was she more attached to the unruly Usurper than her little speech declared?
Pasting a humble look on his face, the dark fae looked at the ground, his head bowed respectfully. “I humbly apologize for disturbing you, my lady, but my lord has…asked for an audience. I only come here to respectfully beg that you attend.”
Like a good little politician, he bowed and waited until she spoke again. It was quite elegant, if he did say so himself, given the fact that he was more in tune with soldiering and war. Now, she would be awed by his lofty words and would accept the fact that she would be returning with—
Baden blinked, slowly straightening as she began to rant about her half blood heritage. Okay, so he definitely hadn’t been expecting that one. He opened his mouth to reply when she’d finished, planning on emphasizing how beautiful he thought she was, but she cut him off yet again. Good Gods, how did Corbin stand her? How did the others in her Court stand her? Something akin to frustration bloomed in his chest, and he forgot all attempts at the gentlemanly.
Crossing his arms over his chest, the General just shook his head in disbelief as the flow of words suddenly turned to their leaving. “Good Gods…this way, majesty. I have a horse waiting at the edge of the clearing.” An amused smile flickered onto his lips as he led her toward the waiting steeds, and after helping her climb up, he couldn’t help but look up at her with a brow raised. “I believe you will bring many changes to this place, my Queen. Many, many changes.”
And with that, he urged her horse on and followed, the Weres close behind.
Back in the Dark realm, Corbin sat upon his obsidian throne, playing with a jeweled dagger. Baden should be back by now, he thought with a snarl, the shiny blade whirling around his fingers. He’d been through meeting after meeting, not hearing most of what the old figure heads had to say. He didn’t like this sense of anxiety and anticipation, he thought with another low growl. He didn’t like feeling like he was on pins and needles, waiting to see a woman that infuriated him like no other. He knew exactly what was going to go on; she would be presented to him and flounce about in that twenty-first century way, insulting him in front of his guards and yelling at him with words going a mile a minute.
And she was going to look beautiful, he thought with another irritated noise. Throughout the entire scene, her hair would shine like spun gold, and that porcelain face that haunted his dreams would be scrunched up in a show of fury that would bring pride to his chest. That lithe body that he’d felt wrapped around his own every night would be shaking with anger, and those eyes, those beautiful, emotional eyes, would spit fire at him from across the room. She would face him, his wrath, his insanity, without a flinch. And she would be resplendent.
But she would not be his.
An infuriated roar burst from him at the thought, and he felt that warm fire burning his brain, as insanity pulled at its strings. When a guard got too close, he jerked to his feet and sent the poor shifter to his maker with a slash to the neck. Blood seeped into the rug beneath the body, and Corbin threw the dagger across the room.
It was getting harder and harder to stay calm nowadays, he thought, gritting his teeth as he panted a few breaths. He leaned sideways on the throne, rubbing at his throbbing head. Only the bawl of riders coming brought him out of his stupor, and managed to right himself a few moments before the doors flew open, and Baden sauntered inside.
“May I present the Light Fae Queen, Marissa Skye,” He declared, before backing away with a bow.
Corbin stood before his throne, his coat of furs matching the darkness of the room. Steeling himself, he turned his eyes to the door.

A pure smooth pearl a sweet disorder swaying in the dress An electric fur in lace a heaven blooms between her legs Just one look into those heavenly pair of "take me" - eyes Mine's the pleasure as I force-feed her all my lies The redhot nail inside of you is me I am the nail Now drunk on lust I drown in you Tension prevails and it takes me over again I am the nail Forever within I'm lost in you
And so... Off they rode on swift steads towards the dark palace and all that other jazz, Marissa thought to herself as she allowed herself to be seated on a horse and then spirited away. Honestly, it was like something out of a bad fairy tale if you really thought about it. Talk about outdated. For Petes sake.. they were in a magical realm now... Shouldn't they be able to do something besides skip around like characters in a boring children's story?
EVIDENTLY NOT.
Sighing, Rissa adjusted her robe around her and covered herself the best she could on the ride. More than once she caught the gaze of the general linger on her bare legs and she almost giggled because he obviously didn't know what to do with her any more than his King did. There was definite benefits to pretending to be a feather head.
Not that it fooled Corbin much anymore though, came a small voice in her head.
That thought made her frown. It wouldn't do to have him so certain of her. This new summons was no doubt his way of provoking her once again and he would expect her to have a hissy fit of vast proportions when she arrived. No doubt, he was prepared to show his court just what a fluff brained she was and how much better he was suited for the crown.
Well, he better batten down his hatches because he had another thing coming. New Improved Rissa was here and she wasn't above meeting him play for play in this little game.
Turning her attention to the passing landscape, the fae queen took in the palace that they approached and had to admit it was beautiful in a dark, sinister sort of way. The creatures she saw lurking in the shadows, however, were not and she hid a shiver. It would never do to let any of these beings think that the Queen had any fear entering their realm.
Besides, they couldn't harm her no matter their wishes. Not only did magic protect her but she was still confident that her lover would rip them limb from limb if they tried... No mater his anger.
Then, suddenly, they were at the hall of the King and the general was helping her from her mount. Patting the regal horse, Marissa arched a brow at Baden before straightening her "gown" and gracefully ascending the stairs to the court. His steps hurried before hers but she paused a moment to gather her wits. Checking to make sure her dressing gown was belted and her hair was smooth, she raised her chin and put on a mantle of supreme dignity. Ok, so maybe it was hard when she was being forced to parade forward half dressed like some sort of harem slave but a Queen did what a Queen had to do. Right? Right.
When the sound of her name range out, Marissa grinned a bit evilly and glided forward. Her gaze was regal as she moved with graceful purpose and she let cool indifference fill her expression. One look at Corbins face was enough to tell her that he'd expected a flamboyant hoyden instead of a cool royalty.
Good. That would teach him to think he had her all figured out. It would never do to give him exactly what he expected of her because he would grow quickly to sure of himself and to accustomed to getting his way.
Approaching the throne, the petite blond gave the slain were one distainful look before turning a mockingly amused look towards the man standing in front of an ebony seat.
"Corbin, my love... Still slaying your men I see... Some things never change do they?" she asked, dropping to give the barest hint of the curtsy due his station. "Haven't I told you time and time again that honey attracts more bees than vinegar?"
Raising fully to her feet, she tilted her head and gazed at him with emerald depths glimmering.
"Now.... Is there a reason for your men interrupting my bath or is this just a reoccurring event I must accustom myself too? Really, my dear.... Wouldn't it be much easier to simply send me a note than all this fan fair?"
With a politely inquiring look on her face, Rissa then began to look around. Her little nose wrinkled as she took in the creatures yet in the hall and she sighed.
"Oh dear.. .things really have gone badly in my absence haven't they? Your men smell like .. rancid meat again... " she continued with a shudder. "Let me fix that for you..... You would think they would learn..."
Before anyone in the room could react, the little fae queen spun a weave that caused flowers to sprout from the creatures in question. Panic ensued but the petite blond waves another hand and silence fell once more as she turned back to her lord.
"There! Much better.. Now they shan't offend me with their stench." she said pertly before stepping over the crimson stain in the floor and hiking her robes up high to avoid soiling them. "Now.... Where were we again? Oh yes.....the reason behind your summons?"

He was right; she was beautiful. That silken robe she had on seemed to scream ‘take me off!’ and her eyes spat fire at him from across the room. She looked…better, than she had while living with him, he thought bitterly. If anything, the Fae air did much to bring out that natural beauty of hers. While she was living with him, back in the mortal realm, she was as beautiful as any human woman, but here? Here, in the place that she truly belonged…she was resplendent. There was no question about her bloodline, or if she were truly of the immortal blood. She was ethereal, spritely; a cool gust of wind that many would try to catch and fail.
…And if any thought otherwise, they would die bloody by his hands. Whether he despised her or not, they would die, for not worshiping her beauty upon their hands and knees.
Or, for worshiping them a bit too much. The Were’s around him shifted slightly when the Light Queen approached, and he could practically sense their sudden interest. A low noise from him, however, and all available eyes snapped forward. With a clank of metal, the guards took their leave, dragging their fallen comrade out with them.
Baden stood near the doors, watching with curiosity evident on his face. The Fae Queen wasn’t at all what he expected, and the transformation from the yowling woman at the pond, to this cool, collected royal was…almost frightening. Something strange bloomed in his chest, and he couldn’t help a predatory expression from appearing on his face, as he watched the female approach the King.
An expression that did not go unnoticed by Corbin himself. While Rissa proceeded to remark on his lack of control around his men, he met his General’s eyes atop her head. The King’s features seemed to darken slightly, his hands tightening around the cold armrests of his throne, while Baden’s only turned into a challenging smile. With yet another exaggerated bow, the Dark Fae took his leave. He would have to watch his new found ‘ally,’ Corbin thought darkly, doing his best to relax.
Unlike him, Baden would not whisk Rissa away merely to talk, to hear that sweet voice one last time. No…if he knew the General like he thought he did- the man was like him, before he’d fallen under this witch’s spell- there would be no talking. He would have to watch the Queen and the General.
Whether they liked it or not.
With a droll look around the room, as exiting guards proceeded to hop around and swat at the flowers sprouting from their bodies, Corbin let loose a martyred sigh. Hell, he couldn’t even explain to her why he had ‘summoned’ her there! And, even if he did, the damn reason would probably fall under ‘I miss you,’ and ‘I want to see you, away from the Courts,’ which made absolutely no sense, because he hated her.
She had betrayed him, lied to him about her heritage, hid the fact that she had had visits from her true father. He’d felt…almost dismissed, from every one of the most important facts of her life, all because of one little incident with a dragon. Really now, she had to know that the man wouldn’t have hurt her! None of his associates or his enemies back in the mortal realm would have dared to hurt a hair on her head, of fear of his retribution.
Here, in the Dark Realm, on the other hand…Godsdamn, he’d have to be even more vigilant about how he felt about her, until he had those annoying politicians in his corner. How funny…she had claimed that he’d put her in danger with his schemes in the past, but now? Now that he’d followed her to the realm that she’d chosen for herself? The danger increased twofold.
”You have been spending a lot of time with your father, haven’t you?” He said finally. With a slight wave of his hand, the flowers surrounding his guards proceeded to wilt and rot, and the Were’s hurried out of the room before they could be targeted again. He did so love the newfound powers that came with his seat on the throne, he thought. A smile came onto his face then, as he turned to face his Queen, but it did not reach his eyes. ”You sound so…regal. As if you have been trained just for the life of a Queen. How…cliché.”
With a slow, fluid motion, the King rose from his throne and descended the black steps. He clasped his hands behind his back and slowly strolled to the window he’d been previously looking out of. The witch’s lack of fire, of that spritely energy that he’d been expecting- Gods, even looking forward to- had an annoyingly empty feeling enter his gut.
”Yes…to business, I suppose. I will be blunt, my Queen. You are here, because the Dark Realm is about to declare war on your own. My spies tell me that you are having some problems with your higher classes and politicians. Some believe that you aren’t fit to have the throne, because of your half-breed status.”
He kept his face averted, eyes locked on the dark horizon of his new home. He was lying; bald faced and without guilt, about why he had brought her there. But, given the fact that he was supposed to hate her, he couldn’t let her know anything otherwise, right? Right. ”I’ve called you here to speak of the terms of your Realm’s surrender,” He said, voice as casual as he could make it. Despite the outward calm, however, he was all bunched muscle and tensed shoulders. ”Save us all the trouble of a bloody battle, hmm?”

Well, wasn't he just all sorts of royal himself. Her little firing shot hadn't even seemed to stir the hair on his head.. Much less incite a rage. Hmmm.. Maybe he WAS getting a better handle of himself. Rissa didn't know if this was a good thing or a bad thing in all reality. A raging, psychotic Corbin she knew how to handle... A calm, collected one was something new.
And strangely dissatisfying. She would much rather have her passionate beast back than the man who sat so coolly on the thrown before moving to the window to gaze out. That action simply made her want to throw something at him.
Good Gods.. She really was twisted in the head.
Was she SERIOUSLY thinking that she missed the old Corbin? The one she'd laughed with while rolling in a bed of furs.. The one she'd loved with upon the stone in front of the fire? The one who's temper had sent everyone running for the hills except for her and could only be soothed by her touch?
By all the fires of abbadon... She truly was. She was so freaking screwed.
However, none of those thoughts showed on the Fae Queens face as she watched his back and then lifted her hand as if the examine her nails. Her features were a mask of indifference even as the hooded beams of blue peeked at him a time of two. His words, however, caused that facade to crumble and the hoyden emerged with vengence. So enraged by his words was the little blond that she wasn't even aware of picking up an apple from a table until it was already hurtling through the air to smack Corbin on the back of the head. Then, not waiting for his response to that, she marched forward and poked him in the chest just as he turned to snarl at her.
“WAIT A MINUTE THERE, BUCKWHEAT!!! You seem to have mistaken me for one of your chums. For your information, I ALLOWED myself to be brought here today and it wasn't with any intentions of discussing any sort of TERMS. Nor will I allow ANYONE to take my thrown. I am QUEEN and QUEEN I will remain until the day I die... and since that supposedly is not possible until I choose to fade... Then all those idiotic know it alls can stick it in their juice box and SUCK IT for all I care!” she snapped up at him, her little foot tapping hard against the floor in a show of temper. “And besides.. That isnt the reason you brought me here today and you damned well know it! You wanna have wild monkey sex with me just like I wanna you and don't you dare try to deny it cause I saw the hunger in your eyes. Why don't you just bed me already so we can both get it out of our systems and back to the regularly scheduled program already.”
So intent on her words, Rissa didn't even realize that she'd moved in close until her lips were mere inches from Corbins. His intoxicating scent made her cast caution to the wind as she reached up, grabbed him by the robe collars and yanked his body down so that she could lay a lip lock on him in a manner she'd never done before. Damn, the man drove her completely batty but he was the only man who made her feel truly the queen of the world. As their lips met and his angry retort was cut off, Rissa plastered herself to his front and practically climbed up his body until she was on the same height level as he. More.... more... MORE... SHE WANTED MORE.
And then reality intruded with the clearing of a throat and Marissa jerked back in mortification. With cheeks blazing red, she whirled around to spy a bowed messenger and barely stiffled a shriek of irritation.
“GO AWAY!!” she practically snarled at the man, fling one hand up to knock him backwards out the door on his butt and slamming the portal behind him. Her temper was so great that the whole palace rang from the effects of her tantrum.
“Damn it, Damn it, Damn it.” she muttered as she turned back to the man she'd practically be goggling up not moments before and growled. “ISN”T THERE ANY PRIVACY AROUND HERE??”

Gods…it was probably very, very wrong on so many levels, but he could almost feel himself relaxing, when Rissa began to yell at him. He just managed to stop himself from closing his eyes with a relieved sigh, instead gripping the windowsill at his side like it was a lifeline. He would NOT feel such utter relief at her being there, and he would NOT think about how listless he felt when she wasn’t around. He wouldn’t dwell on the fact that his bouts of insanity had worsened since she’d gone, and that her very presence made it easier to hold onto reality. He hated her. He despised her and wanted her kingdom for his own…
But that wasn’t everything…and it would never be. He loved the annoying witch with whatever part of his soul that hadn’t been corrupted by ambition. Gods damn her. Gods damn her, for making him so weak!
The only emotion on the fae’s face was a slight taint of amusement, when he looked down at the finger poking his chest. Though she’d previously donned the formal robe of royalty, this outburst proved that she still possessed that 21st century fire he’d become so used to. He almost reached a hand up to capture the insulting digit, but he refrained, merely gazing down at her with a neutral expression on his face while she ranted.
Quite unbidden, the image of an older version of Rissa flashed through his mind, the scenario the same. Would they fight like this in the years to come, if they survived to keep their thrones? Corbin wasn’t stupid; he knew that Baden planned to take the kingdom from him, and Rissa was probably dealing with the same problems…but what if they lived? What if, centuries from now, they were still ruling the Realms? Would she fight with him? Would there still be that same spark, that same fire?
He couldn’t stop a shudder from running up his spine as he imagined her, at his side, forever. His partner, his companion…his Queen. But was that the throne speaking? It was the bane of the Dark Fae King to unite with the lighter side of his rule; was it that inherent need for completion that had him reaching for her, even though it was so obvious that she wanted nothing to do with him?
When the ranting continued and she began to throw ‘wild monkey sex’ at him, he quickly swallowed that previous thought. So, perhaps his witch was still as hungry for his body as he was for hers. He could deal with that.
Even if he still wanted her kingdom.
”You talk too much, woman,” He growled against her lips, turning them so he could press her back against the window. When her legs curled around his waist, he felt faint, as if all of the blood in his brain had flown down to his lower anatomy. With low, dark growls, he strove to punish her with his lips; trapping her between his body and the cold stone behind her.
His hands slid beneath the sheer fabric that covered her body, and he bit back a groan at the softness that he found, nipping at her bottom lip as his fingers did a bit of wandering. This was what he’d been craving; a culmination to the almost animalistic need to be with her again. They were enemies now, and she had betrayed him…but he couldn’t get enough of her.
He would never get enough.
An angry roar tore through him when the messenger appeared. The poor fool should thank his lucky stars that Rissa dealt with him, the dark fae thought. With a snarl, he waved his hand and a black smoke appeared around the doorway, any secret passages into the room, and the window behind her, shielding them as well as locking them inside. He knew that he should take her to his rooms, but the mere thought of separating himself from her became unbearable.
Which was exactly when the madness set in. Like a blow to the back of the head, he lost his hold on reality, and gritted his teeth to keep from striking out. The anger that he’d felt at the messenger increased twofold, and he tightened his hold on his witch, no doubt leaving bruises where his fingers dug into the poor woman’s hips. His breaths came out in harsh pants as he leaned his forehead against hers, taking in her scent. It grounded him; it always had…but ever since he’d come to this dark kingdom, his father’s voice in his head had become much more persistent than before. It only quieted when he shed blood, or when he was close to his mate.
”You will never cease to make me crazy, my love. I want to kill you and make you scream my name...” He managed to growl, wild eyes locking on her own. He was doing his best to soften his grip on her, but he couldn’t make his fingers move. With another dark sound deep in his chest, he swooped forward to capture her lips again.

You're so controlling, so demanding, like to take advantage of me, But I don't mind, no sir. You get under my skin, such a sweet sin Just like a disease that keeps on, keeps on eating at me, I know good and well you're good for nothing They say you don't deserve me But it really don't disturb me. Why do all good girls like the bad boys? Like a moth to a flame, I guess I'm back here again. Tell me why the dark side just captures my eye, I know that you're a villain but I can't stop this feeling.
By all the fires of Abaddon!
YES! This was what she wanted.. What she needed. She simply couldn't get enough of him even though she knew he was like a drug that an addict craved. He was so NOT good for her but she had to have him. As much as the air she breathed into her lungs or the chocolate she craved to keep her own sanity. How he'd managed to sneak into her heart she wasn't quiet sure but he was there and he was part of her very soul.
Damn him to hell and back.
Growling fiercely enough to match his own grumbles, Marissa threaded her hands through his hair and pulled hard as he kissed her. Their matings had never been roses and candle light kind of events but there seemed to be even more urgency now than before and the brush of his hand against her bare skin made her arch into his caress. It made her yank at the fastenings of his own robes until she could slid her own palms against his warm flesh.
A groan escaped her as he gripped her hard enough to bruise her flesh but it didn't phase her in the least. In fact, it just made her want him more because the beast was rising and she knew it could only be soothed by her touch.
When his head dropped to her forehead, Rissa raised her palms and placed them on either side of his face. Her sapphire eyes glimmered with inner magic and then she took his fierce kiss with a passion designed to gentle the fury she felt raging inside him. The magic that flowed and danced between them was almost a physical thing as it seemed to combine and level out. His brute strength and her innate femininity were the things fairy tales were truly made of and when her beast pulled away, Marissa instinctively offered him the one thing that he truly craved.
Herself.
Reaching for the belt of her robe, the fae queen felt his eyes follow her actions and then the silken material was drawn away from soft curves. With a little shrug of her shoulders, Rissa freed herself from the material and pressed her natural form against the tense maleness that was her King. While her actions might have been supplicant in nature, there was no denying the fire that flared hotly in her eyes.
"Then make me scream your name, my lover...." she whispered before pulling the pins from his tunic and shivering with the escalating hunger she felt in her core. "Or have you become a man of political debate and less a man of action?"
It was then that a truly impish expression crossed her face. Pulling her lips from his, she pushed him away gracefully and slide to the floor. Dancing away a few feet to cast him a look over her shoulder, the little blond nymph delighted in the predatory look that stole over the dark kings face. While most would have no doubt run screaming from his presence, Rissa simply arched a playful brow and scampered off to place the throne between them.
"Now, now, my wolf.... What good is your prize if you don't have to work for it first?" she taunted him, her long blond hair shielding her form even as it enticed him to the chase.

This was right, the Dark King thought hazily, as he sank into his woman’s embrace. This was where he belonged; not in the human world, not in the Fae Realm, not in a throne or a battlefield…there, so close to her, wrapped around her body and her scent was where he was at home. For the first time in months, he felt something click back into place in his head, and a sense of peace flooded through him.
He tried to fight it; his darker half roared and snapped against the bliss that the witch offered, but he couldn’t hold it back. That sense of rightness roared through his soul, mending the tears and breaks that had formed when she left.
She had returned to his arms, where she belonged…and if she left him again, he would die. It was a simple truth that he despised, denied…but it was there. Written in stone, and the jagged bones around his heart. Whether he wanted to rule the Realm or not, without her, his other half, he was nothing.
Losing her was to lose a part of himself. Gods…when had this happened? When had he been so solidly caught up in this web? Was it fate? Karma? The Gods’ punishment for what he’d done in the past?
Either way, he would have to rethink those plans of war, even if his men needed a show of power to keep him in his throne. He couldn’t risk his Queen’s life, even for his own safety. Gods, he could almost FEEL his thoughts, his desires and his needs being rearranged, until Marissa’s face and name became the most important. He didn’t understand it; this complete and utter…devotion that he felt to her! He’d never depended on another person in his life, and had certainly never loved anyone. He had never even been sure he was capable of such a blasphemous thing!
Yet, there he was; feeling that instinctive resistance to the fact slowly began to crumble. She was his, and he was hers. It was an exchange, of sorts, and he was powerless to stop it.
More importantly, he didn’t want to. Good Gods, where would this lead?
An animalistic growl was the only thing that he could manage, as she pressed her bare front against him. Though he tried to be gentle, he roughly pulled her closer, fingers skimming over her soft flesh as he caught her lips with his. She wanted him to make her scream his name? Oh, she would scream alright…and the entire Realm would know who it was she belonged to.
“You little tease,” He growled darkly when she sprang away. She was like an imp, taunting him with the sight of her. Without another word, he surged after her, doing his best to catch her. The temptress was a quick one, he acknowledged after a minute of trying to chase. The guards outside were probably thinking the inhabitants inside were insane, he thought absently, as his big body seemed to find every breakable thing in the throne room with a smash, as he attempted to snare his wily mate.
Finally, he accomplished the task by leaping over the throne when she darted behind it. A triumphant sound came from his chest as he claimed her lips again, possessive in his roughness. The coat of furs became a whisper of their soft bed in the human world, as he lay her down upon it. Soon, he made good on his silent promise and her cries rang through the room.
Afterward, his body slick with sweat, he looked down at her with a satisfied smile on his face. He traced the curve of her cheek as he held himself on his elbows. “You are mine,” He said softly, still a bit breathless from their previous activities. “You know that, don’t you?”

By all the fires of Abaddon.
Marissa would happily have given away her crown if it had meant remaining in this moment forever. Here, away from the prying eyes of the others, they were simply a man and a woman in need of each other and the fierce heat in his dark eyes made her melt into his embrace. The thrill of the chase was all well and good but the little fae witch was smart enough to realize that the true reward was in the surrender.
A surrender she gladly gave him as he caught her into his embrace and laid her back upon the softest bed of furs. As his touch laid seige to her skin and his body claimed hers in the timeless manner of lovers, Marissa let go of all the baggage and gave herself over to him completely.
The fae could all be damned for all she cared at the moment.
Outside this chamber, they were on opposite ends of a colorful spectrum but here.... Here there was no need for pretense of deceptions. Desire was pure and true between them and she could submit to him in all the ways a woman truly gave to her man. There were no rules and regulations being thrown at her head nor where there any threats of death lurking over their shoulders. Hatred and recrimination had no place between them and Rissa soaked in the feel of him against her even as she committed his scent to memory.
When the storm finally rode itself out, she felt him shift on to his elbows and looked up into his dark eyes. Everything she felt for him was laid bare in her swirling sapphire orbs and she suspected that if he had put a blade to her breast at that moment... She would not have raised a finger to stop him. The unyielding truth of the matter was that he WAS her life and without him.... She was only a useless puppet head.
The words he whispered instead though made her heart swell and run over with love. Yes, there wasn't any denying the matter anymore. She loved him with a passion that belied her gentle nature and she suspected that her wrath would indeed be fierce if anyone ever harmed him or tried to take him from her. She would gladly kill any who tried.
"Of course I am you big dolt!" she retorted back, stretching impishly like a cat underneath him. "Have I ever claimed differently? Whatever political matters we may have outside the bedchamber are simply that... Political. Here... Like this.... I'm simply a woman and that woman will always be yours....."
Raising her arms, she pulled him down for another kiss before nipping at the edges of his lips.
"Surely a mighty Fae King isn't afraid of his Queen? For all our differences and disagreements... at the end of the day... I hold no more power over you than you do me.... I need no other nor do I want another as long as we have moments such as this..... "
Then brushing her fingers over his cheek and then lips, she smiled up at him softly and let him read the truth in her gaze.
"I suspect that our course will never be easy but then.. You've never really expected easy from me, now have you? We shall undoubtedly bicker and fight but making up is so much fun, don't you think?" she finished impishly.

This was what he missed, the Dark King thought, idly playing with a lock of gold blond hair. He held himself above her, careful not to squash her with his weight, and nuzzled her neck as she spoke, relishing the answering bumps that rose against his cheek. She was all contradiction, wasn’t she? Softness and fire; nobility and warrior. She would hold a knife to his neck while professing her love; he could see it now. A smile tugged at his lips at the image; an expression that he hid against her neck.
It was as if he were finally at peace with himself, with his place in life…with her. Though the sting of her previous betrayal was still there, raw in his mind, he couldn’t stop himself from needing to be near her. Was it the pull of their powers? The yin and yang of their thrones? Whatever it was, he knew that any trespass would be forgiven, with one look into those beautiful eyes.
He was doomed; it was the final conclusion. There would be no war, his people would continue to think of him as the Usurper King, and he would be stabbed in the back by those around him. A fae-Julius Caesar.
That is, unless he gave them a true show of power. The thought warmed him as he imagined a rain of blood, and the stodgy ranks of the nobility thinning under his reign, replaced by those who supported him on the throne. It would be a long, hard battle, but he could not go to war with the Light Court. Not now.
And, damn it all, not ever. GAH, where had his cold, dark heart gone to? When had it been replaced by this squishy thing? He was acting like a human! A love struck human!
…And Gods help him, he fucking liked it.
With a groan, he rolled to his side, curling himself around her. A laugh escaped her at the ‘duh’ tone of her voice, and he idly traced his fingers over her various dips and curves. A smirk was still on his face as he gave her a drool look, resting his head on his hand.
“Yes, I’ve always been partial to the notion of ‘make up sex’ being the best kind,” He replied, nipping at her lips as she ended her stolen kiss. “But our seats of power…they pose a threat to our lives. I need a show of power to cement myself on the Dark Realm’s throne, and you need to win the hearts of your nobles. Having me for a husband won’t accomplish that. And from the spectacles that we’ve made of ourselves…”
A dark chuckle escaped him, when he remembered the look on her father’s face. “Truthfully, Marissa…I don’t know how to belong to anyone. I don’t know how to be your mate…or how to be your partner in ruling this place. I do fear you, because you alone have the power to destroy me. I would kill anyone for you; destroy anything, any power…including myself. And that terrifies me.”
His voice had grown soft as the words tumbled from him before he could stop them. He hated sharing what he was thinking, feeling, but he had no choice; they were ripped from him. Shifting uneasily, he let his eyes fall upon her lips, rather than her eyes, while he idly traced his fingers along the smooth skin of her arm.

Why do all good girls like the bad boys? Like a moth to a flame, I guess I'm back here again. Tell me why the dark side just captures my eye, I know that you're a villain but I can't stop this feeling.
There were times that being a Queen was a real pain in the arse. In fact, Rissa was of the mind that there were far more downers than perks of ruling a realm and she really wished they could just go back to the time when they were simply a beast and a beauty. Things had been far simpler then and she'd been much, MUCH happier. Deep down, she suspected that was true for Corbin too.
However, the die had been cast and rulers they were come what may. And as such, there was no way in HELL Marissa was going to let anyone threaten her kingdom, her crown, or her king. He might be the big evil but he was her big evil and she'd bring the dark court to its knees if anyone ever got so brave as to harm him. Somewhere down deep, that truth hit a cord of truth and she knew she could do it too. A fledgling monarch she might be but she sense the well of power in her soul and knew that she was more than a match for anyone in their world. A matching one in her lover called to her and proclaimed them mates even as he talked about political intrigue. She had no doubts in his ability to calm the rabble but she gave a dainty shrug anyways even as she sprawled across his front and gazed down at him with a thoughtful expression.
“Let them all talk if they wish.... Its not as if we are acting like anything other than what we are... The legends are full of talk about the passion between the Dark King and his Seelie Queen. Its a balance of power and emotion that can not be undone and is destined from birth.... I was your before I ever took my first breath just as you were mine.” she drawled huskily, tossing a golden lock back from her face. “I'll admit... I was a bit discomforted by it at first because I did not know my dark King would be you... However, it seems we both had hidden depths.... Now, it all makes perfect sense to me. Fate is not something to be argued with and it seems that they knew the cards even before either of us had a glimmering.”
Arching her brow, she met his dark eyes with sparkling blue ones that took on a soft, warm glow.
“I don't think it requires knowing, my lover.... I think it just requires being. As long as you live and breath, you belong to me and I will not relinquish my claim. I want but one beast in my bed or my heart and that beast is you.”
Knowing that was a close as she'd ever come to saying what was in her heart, the little fae titled her head and let him see the full sincerity in her gaze. Reaching up, she caressed his cheek.
“Corbin.... For a smart guy... You can be extremely stupid.... Haven't you figured it out by now? To destroy you.... I would destroy myself....You are part of me even when we are apart... I have missed you like crazy......”
Then, frowning, she looked beyond him for a long moment and seemed lost in thought. When she turned her attention back to him, it was with a cunning that made her beautiful features look far wiser than before.
“If you need a show of power.... I might just have the ticket. You see.... There is an object of power lost in the mortal world that I need to find and return to our realm. Its one of the first matters of business upon my royal plate and its rumored to have fallen into the hands of a sorceress of black power. With it in her hands, our realms are in far more peril than just a civil uprising..... We MUST get it back or we stand to lose everything.”

There was no fear, with her. The thought flitted through Corbin’s mind as he lay beside her, his body instinctively curling protectively around hers. There was no anxiety about having to watch her every move; to look for any hint of another betrayal on the horizon. While she had done just that- had sold him out to the annoyingly honorable dragon shifter- and had taken a seat of opposition to his own crown…he couldn’t find the anger he’d previously had. He’d wanted to hate her, to feel her blood on his fingers and her bones crunch beneath his fists. He’d wanted to kill her for making him feel so…so…human.
But no more. What was it about the woman and that beguiling smile, that made everything right in the world? Gods, their time apart had been more of a circle of Hell than when she was at his side. Had it really only been a simple year ago, when he’d have watched her, afraid that she’d take his throne?
Gods, she was magical, wasn’t she? To dispel such feelings with a simple quirk of her lips. He’d talked of fear before; of being afraid of her power over him…but he felt none of it. Just the slow warmth of contentment.
She was HIS, and woe to any man who thought to covet that title.
While she spoke, the Dark Fae lowered his head to place a kiss on the side of her neck, followed by one on her collarbone. Such a little poet, he thought with a low chuckle. Whatever discomfort he’d felt previously at sharing his feelings were slowly dissipating, as he fell into the soft drawl of her voice. A snort of amusement escaped him when she spoke of her being ‘discomforted’ about his being her mate, and he looked up to raise an eyebrow at her. He kept silent, letting her speak, and mutely trailed his lips across her torso. If only they could stay like this forever.
Idly, he traced his thumb along the curve of her jaw, levering himself up to look her in the eyes again. “You make it sound so easy,” He muttered, shaking his head with wry amusement. “This ‘belonging,’ and ‘being one with someone.’ In my lifetime, I have known only death and war. I do not know how to be so trusting of you…even though it is almost instinctive. All that I ask of you, little witch, is to be patient with me. This…all of this, even my ruling in this realm, is new to me. I don’t know how to share power, or to share what I’m thinking. But I will learn.”
At the new expression that flitted onto her face, Corbin found himself quickly becoming less interested in words, and more interested in another, happier part of his anatomy. “Cunning looks good on you, my love,” He purred, shifting a bit above her. He raised a brow as she went on. “What is this object? Would the others; the nobles and the old Powers in our realms know of it?”
He stilled as his mind began to turn. “If it is so dangerous, and we are the ones to bring it back…yes, that would be an adequate show. It would cement some trust in the both of us…perhaps win us some allies that we didn’t have before. Do you know where in the mortal realm it is? Or how to track it?”

Awwww.. and there was her naughty Fae. Just when she was adjusting to his unnaturally soft love talk, he made the switch to something more akin to what she was used too. While she adored the heat that was banked in his eyes as he talked about his inner most feelings, there was definitely something in the devious look that snuck into his expression that made her hot all over once again.
It made absolutely no sense but it was there just the same. The desire it sparked in her middle had her definitely doubting her own sanity. Surely only a lunatic would be turned on by the sly plotting going on in his devious brain. She could practically see the gears in his mind working and the crafty expression that stole over his features told her that her lover was back in the saddle, no pun intended, and already turning his attention in a direction that was garenteed to put them on the same playing field and out of direct conflict with one another.
Oh HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY! Maybe the Fae world would luck out after all. Not that many of the idiots would truly appreciate the lengths in which their King and Queen were willing to go to for them.... Er.. well... Not that her current position was any hardship for her... Quiet the opposite in fact.. That that was an entirely different matter...Oh yes, an entirely different matter indeed and one that was made interesting by the glimmer in her lovers wicked gaze. It took her a full minute to reassert her thoughts and lower her racing pulse so that she could think.
If the Civil war that was brewing could be diverted and a common enemy targeted, then those plotting to use the tide to dethrown them could be exposed over time. Not to mention that the retriveal of the priceless Fae artifact would prove to one and all that they were a power to be reconed with and not taken lightly.
Oh yes, those who thought that only the Dark King could be devious had greatly underestimated their queen. She might have been raised among the human world but she hadn't taken on the biggest baddie in New Orleans without having a few tricks up her own sleeve and she hadn't captured his attention by being weak of heart either. They were sadly mistaken if she would lay down and take whatever the fools wished to deal out and the court was going to get an eye opener as to who really held the power in this game of intrigue. The court of light and the court of darkness both.
Keeping those thoughts to herself, however, Rissa let her finger tips trail down Corbins bare chest as she lifted sated eyes to his. Her lips turned up in a seductive smile even as her mind whirled, come up with and dis guarding plans.
"They say that an evil sorceress from another realm has been searching for objects of power. Each magical species has some sort of sacred object that holds great magic and can be used to help bend the veils of the realms so that .. in the right hands... all the veils can be brought down and the worlds within torn apart.... Its said that the witch means to rule all the realms but to do so would bring about the destruction of many and might end the worlds all together.
A delicate frown settled on her brow as she paused for a moment, thoughtfully, before continuing.
"The magic this sorceress wields is not completely her own and is most dangerous. Depending on the number of sacred objects she has obtained and what kind of army she has... She will not be an easy force to defeat.... My sorces say that she has been like a spider weaving her web for centuries now.. if not more.. She thinks to divide and conquer and we can not allow this to be...."
Turning her attention back to her dark companion, she lifted a slim brow before kissing his lips.
"As much as one might wish to rule the worlds... It is not to be.... I think it better to rule one world than risk destroying them all and having nothing..... The sorceress is a fool to think she can do so without bringing about her own end and her arrogance shall be her downfall.....I should like to see such an evil creature swatted like the pest she is....I've always wanted to shout "OFF WITH HER HEAD!" Can I do it?? PLEASE??"
