( hey, soul sister ) ( ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -If Cayden had been human, his reunion with Cass would have been far different. A human would have skipped the coffee out of a ridiculous notion that if they did not get to cass right then that somehow they'd never get to her. They would have opened a Way closer to Veritas - despite the idiocy of that idea because the Way on other side was clogged with supernatural nasties just waiting for a chance to get out. A human would have taken a cab or run or stolen a bike - with promises to return, which was hilarious to Cayden. they would have thrown the bike up against the outside wall of Veritas, or sprung from the cab without paying and they would have thrown open the door of the store, found Cass and kissed her senseless. There would have been emotional seconds of silence, maybe a slap from Cass and then Cayden - had he been human - would have confessed his never ending love.
And then movie credits. Cayden thought to himself as he shuffled to a stop at a cross walk. It was really raining now and Cayden was soak - he had spells that warded off the elements but well it had already been drizzling when he'd shown up and it took far too much energy to work magic under moving water. The caramel thing was long gone and he stood at the curb, bouncing on the balls of his feet. For some reason sugar had always been drug-like for Cayden. It altered his reality. Things became lighter, funnier and he literally felt like everything was right in the world. Sugar alone was bad enough but chocolate...chocolate had a whole other host of problems. He'd had it once, only once, before he'd left Cass and for three hours after he had just watched her every movement, wondering if attempting a bit of a kiss and snuggle was a bad idea. So he stuck with regular sugar, the safe sort - a fae with impulse control issues like that was dangerous - and happily let himself succumb to it.
The light turned and Cayden ambled across, grinning at a young woman who was coming the other way - she watched him go and Cayden, just to be funny gave his gait a little swagger so she'd really have something to stare at - and then snickered to himself when he got a weird look from a man who was just leaving Veritas as he arrived. Yes, sugar was such a lovely, lovely thing.
"Howdy," Cayden said and grinned at him, winked and gave his best cowboy impression - Cayden liked Western movies the most...well second only to silly ones like Legend. The man gave hi ma look with Cayden ignored but held the door open for him anyway and Cayden slipped inside quietly, anticipation making him feel like he couldn't stand still. He could feel Cass behind a few shelves, felt her warm human energy and for a second Cayden debated whether or not he needed to scare the shit out of her or not. If he did she'd likely throw something at his head. So putting that idea aside, Cayden all but tip-toed around a few shelves - he'd forgotten that he was wet of course - and when he saw her back he ducked into some other shelves, shoved his head between two of them.
"Marco," he muttered quietly, for only Cass to hear.

It was a fairly slow day at Veritas, the little shop that Cass owned. There hadn't been much supernatural activity going on, at least none that had bothered to step on her toes, so that aspect of the shop had been quiet. Only a few patrons, human obviously, had come in and out, looking for various things. It was also funny for her to watch them musing around, to see them discover things they barely understood. Most humans didn't understand that there was another world beneath their own, filled with the monster and creatures they'd only truly believed in as children. Veritas was a place where the two worlds invariably mixed, and even if people couldn't understand it, they could feel it, which of course made them curious.
Of course Cass was careful not to sell anything truly supernatural to a normal human, but it still fun to see them oogle at the stuff. Most of the time the regulars came in to buy herbs, incense, candles, or decorative relics, but there were still a couple of real deal dangerous items she hosted. Those were for the special clientele.
While restocking one of the shelves, a strange feeling shot through her. Cass stopped momentarily, riding the feeling out. It was a familiar warmth, almost some kind of ethereal recognition.
As if almost matching that feeling, a mysterious whisper seemed to find her ear. Marco. What the hell?
Then it hit her. A playful whisper? A childish game of Marco-Polo? That strange feeling? It could only really come from one thing...one very shocking, loving, annoying, infuriating thing...
Dashing around the self in movements probably faster than comprehendable, Cass literally tackled Cayden to the floor. "CAY!!!!" her voice practically sang, her arms squeezing him. Then, realization set in, and she sat up, though for a moment, and punched him in the shoulder. Hard. "WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?!"
Was she happy to see him? Hell yes. But did that mean the rugged little Fae was off the hook for practically disappearing on her? HELL no. ((OOC: I'm going to see if one of the admin can move this thread, because Veritas has it's own section, 'kay?))

( hey, soul sister ) ( ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -When Cass flew around the shelves at him Cayden could have easily deflected the tackle. To do so he would have stepped one small step to the left and brought up and arm, grabbed Cass by the front of her shirt. Then with a three-quarter turn he would have gotten behind her and got his other arm around her neck…and well the tackle would have been diverted. The wonderful thing about this silly human though was that Cayden’s instinct didn’t flare up around her. If any of the other humans in the store had come flying at him, attempted to tackle him, Cayden probably would have hurt them…quite a bit. But Cass…it probably had to do with the fact that when she came flying at him there was this overwhelming burst of warm and happy and frustration and Cayden had always been a bit distracted by her feelings.
So he really didn’t stop Cass at all.
Stopping Cass from doing anything – unless it was dangerous and something she should never do – was akin to a sin in Cayden’s book. Sure he could have caught her and kept himself form being tackled. Sure he could have made their reunion quiet…but why the hell would he? It was too much fun to see Cass acting like this, too nice to feel the bubbling emotions that swirled around her for Cayden to do anything but let the woman do whatever the hell she wanted – within in safe reason of course…mostly.
He hit the ground laughing with a small human on top of him – who was yelling ‘Cay’ practically in his ear – and caught her round the middle and would have been quite happy to just lie there and snuggle her – it was mostly the sugar…probably – but then Cass was sitting up and yelling at him - Ah…yelling. Was it weird that Cayden liked to hear Cass yell? – and slugging him in the arm. That of course only got him laughing harder – although she punched hard it was just still too hilarious not to laugh – and went up on his elbows.
“Where have you been?” He said and tilted his head at her, grinning wickedly. This was his thing, annoying Cass, teasing her with words and generally being ridiculous. “I have not been here obviously. But I also have not been in…oh…China.” Rambling, rambling, this was the sugar talking mostly, but Cayden was also very, very sure that he was very, very happy to see this human woman. With a small chuckle Cayden sat up further and knocked his forehead gently against Cass’, waggled his brows. “I see that you missed me. Either that or you want me to play football…which I think could be a lot of fun.”

Cass merely growled in frustration at Cayden's taunting little words. The Fae had always been able to hit that one little mental spot, the one that instant sent her emotions all in a flurry. Part of her was ecstatic to see him, ecstatic to the point of having her way with him in one of the bedrooms downstairs. But the other part? Well, that part was the fire in her that did want to play football with him; rough, down and dirty telekinetic football where he was the ball.
For God's sake, he'd left her. Without a word of warning or anything, he'd just randomly disappeared one day, after what had seemingly been a few months of bliss. It was almost like some part of her had been torn away, ripped from inside her.
After saving her, it was almost exactly like that; Cayden had irrevocably become a part of her. She instinctively felt happy when he was near, like some empty, missing part of her had been filled. She could blame the blood bond, but it was almost like there was something else there...something deeper. It was enough to drive her insane, hence the somewhat crazy stream of thoughts and emotions flying through her head.
Leaning back while sitting on top of him, Cass glared at Cay, her expression mixed. "You owe me a very serious explanation here mister," she chastised him, poking him strongly on the chest. "You disappeared on me with any word of warning whatsoever. So unless you want a serious ass-kicking, and I mean it, I want you to spill...NOW." She was out of get answers, one way or another.

( hey, soul sister ) ( ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Most of the time, at lest in Cayden's mind, he really did quite well at passing for a human. Granted he was and odd 'human' by any standard but he was able to interact with humans, talk to humans and generally get around in their world without there being too many questions he needed answered. Just because he was young didn't mean he was stupid, he'd been around quite a bit before anything but places like Babylon had been well established. Humans didn't change their spots - or stripes or highlights or freckles or moles...is a mole just a big freckle? - and so Cayden figured he knew humans pretty damn well.
So why was it that Cass was doing such a great job at confusing him?
Her emotions skittered across Cayden's skin in some wildly flittering way. They were hot and warm and felt like a tongue against his neck but they were cold and icy and dug at his flesh with a severe purpose that Cayden didn't know how to interpret. Some felt like sticking your hand in cold mud, clogging but somehow reassuring. All of them were glorious and Cayden leaned in, nuzzled his nose against Cass' chin. That was a terribly inhuman thing to do but Cayden was distracted and the sugar wasn't really helping at all. Then a finger was prodding into his chest and Cayden leaned back, grinning from ear to ear as Cass began to snap at him. His head tilted and he watched her, infinitely amused and reached up and let his fingers trail over her cheek because the way she was flushing with...well annoyance or anger or whatever it was really was terribly intriguing.
"No ass-kicking please," Cayden said and tapped a few fingers across her cheek. "I have a very nice ass and you would not be able to appreciate it if you kicked it, Cass."
While Cayden was a joker and game-player and generally all around interested in having fun - at least here - he couldn't miss the way her words seemed to darken her mood. Had he not had all that fucking sugar he would have noticed it sooner and wouldn't have teased her so much - well maybe Cayden would have but he would have done it better. I've upset her. So in true Cayden fashion he sat up and wrapped his big arms around her and tugged Cass close, hugged her and nuzzled his nose against her face.
"I have upset you," he said softly and the joking was gone from his voice. Yes...joking was fun but not if it hurt Cass. Cayden didn't like to hurt Cass. "I had duties away from here. I did not want to go if that reassures you." With a small hum Cayden pulled back and peered at her, his brows lightly furrowed. "I did not want to see how you would react if I told you I was leaving."
