CAYDEN FEATHERWIND
've got you under my skin
I've got you deep in the heart of me
So deep in my heart, that you're really a part of me
I've got you under my skin
Full Name: Cayden Featherwind
Nicknames: He told Cass to call him Cay. Giving out his true name is ridiculously dangerous obviously.
Physical Age: A few thousands years old. To Fae he's a youngin.
Date of Birth: Unknown
Hometown: Fae
Current Residence: Wherever the hell he wants - right now he wants to be with Cass.
Occupation:
Relationship Status: Single
Character Type: Fae
Affiliations: Lawful Good for a fae (humans would say…chaotic good…ish)
Gender: Male
Hair: Brown, shoulder length, thick and delicious (come on he’s an attractive male fae…its delicious)
Eyes: (purple prose or not to purple prose…oh hell) His eyes are the color of the sea just as the sky darkens with black clouds for a storm. (grayish-blue)
Height: 6’4’’
Weight: 220 pounds
Body Type: Muscles baby. Lots and lots of muscle. Don’t be confused though, these aren’t the pretty model-boy muscles. His abs are not, in fact, use to wash clothes and his arms are not, in fact, uzis. His muscles are the ones that help him hold a sword, stomp around in battle and generally be a long-standing, powerful fae swordsman. One arm, his sword arm, has more muscle on it. His leg muscles are slightly over-large (well they look that way) because he is very, very accustomed to hauling ass across large stretches of hilly Fae land. Yeah sure he’s got a great ass and yeah she he’s tall, dark and handsome but don’t expect Kenyon (you know that author don’t lie) to use him as one of her pretty boys.
Best Feature: His smile. When Cayden smiles it lights up a room. Seriously…his smile can probably make anyone smile.
Worst Feature: His hair. Honestly he should just cut it. His face just isn’t suited for long hair but well, he’s never really thought about a ‘hair style’ because why the hell would he?
Sexuality: Can Fae have a sexuality? That’s a very human sort of label isn’t it? Cayden isn’t quite sure what you mean but he’ll go ahead and say ‘straight’ because he doesn’t want to have men flirting with him.
Personal Style: Here’s the deal. Cayden spent some time with Cass and got to understanding the whole ‘human’ thing, at least a little bit. As a soldier he’d never really gotten to play about much in the mortal realm in the modern era and so in his ascots and powdered wigs – yeah the last time he was in the mortal realm was the 18th century in France…what? – were the height of fashion. Obviously he’s has sense knocked into him. Granted his clothes are still a bit odd sometimes – he has this thing for button-down striped shirts, he had like a billion at Cass’ house – but he manages to at least come across as a human now. Granted back in Fae he dresses as a warrior with armor and swords and leather pants – oh you know because those are um…practically yes practical – but in the human world he likes wearing hoodies and jeans and…well okay he really doesn’t like shoes at all and even in winter would be walking around barefoot. There are hints in his style that suggest he’s not ‘normal’ but for the most part he just looks like a normal human guy when he’s in the human world.
Face Claim: Jake Gyllenhaal
Abilities:
SWORDSMAN: Yeah…Cayden’s pretty much badass with a sword. After a few millennia of wielding one you get really, really good. He’s got two swords actually and is a fierce fighter with them, but he’s also got a couple of wicked daggers – well he did he left one with Cass so now he only has one.
Swords
The daggers are miniatures of the swords
MAGIC: He can weave magic on humans and roll them with his eyes, make them do as he wishes – not that he’s really the sort to use this ability, he’s never been a seducer which makes him a ‘weird guy’ in the Fae realm But if he wanted all Cayden would have to do is murmur into the ear of a pretty little human female – and some males – smile at them, get them to look into his eyes and there’s a good chance they’re falling over themselves to please him. Another basic: invisibility. It doesn’t work how you think it would though. Cayden literally wraps the world around him. At night he pulls literal night from the air around him and wraps it around his body, literally becomes a part of the scenery around him. During the day he bends and refracts light so that people can’t focus on where he is. And fin ally despite the fact that he’s been shunned Cayden can still pull open Ways between Fae and the mortal realm. There’s a spell you see, a simple thing that needs only one of his daggers – why do you think he left one for Cass. He stands and chants and cuts into the fabric of reality and tears a hole between Fae and the human realm. This can literally be done anywhere but they don’t always match. He might open a Way in Cass’ house and he’ll end up on top of a purple mountain surrounded by fire in the Fae world. Cayden knows the Ways though obviously and knows where the safe places to enter and exit are.
So now for the ‘other’ stuff that is personal for Cayden.
Leyline Magic:
Leylines are literally everyone although some are too big for him to draw on – they’d overflow in him and kill him, that sort of thing. The leyline power is just that, power. Cayden has a few foci that help him channel this magic and in fact, some of the bigger lines are totally unusable unless Cayden has afoci on him. There are leylines in the Fae realm as well and he uses them there too, although it’s slightly easier to bigger lines in Fae – well because that’s his home turf obviously. Without a foci Cayden can manage for awhile but it will drain him quickly and might very well get him killed in a battle. When he uses magic it manifests in an elemental way. He can’t control elements but his power manifests that way when he needs to have a manifested spell – and it manifests in fire. The fire doesn’t even burn unless he’s specifically trying to burn someone. Even if he’s just trying to knock someone back in manifests into fire and then does as the spell is supposed to. If Cayden can visualize how a spell manifests it makes it easier to pull off said spell.
Leylines all have signatures to them that come from the earth around them whether they are negative energies or positive ones depends on the ground. Hallowed ground around a church or something like that have leylines with positive energy in them. These positive and negative energies are both a detriment and a help to Cayden. If the ground has a lot of positive energies it can give him a boost in stamina and power, but only for so long. Maybe for a couple of spells Cayden can just draw in the power of a leyline and use said power without a foci when he’s getting positive energy, but after that it starts to burn in his head, the energies become to much. If land has negative energy and Cayden doesn’t funnel said leyline energy through a foci, it will make him sick and could very well kill him just as much as the positive energies can.
How does this work out in battle? Lets say Cayden gets surprised and he doesn’t have time to focus energy through a foci. He draws up power from a leyline and it has a positive energy to it. That energy goes into him and gives him a boost, gives him a little oomph of power and he can throw out a nice, big spell. Lets say the leyline has negative energies. He throws out a spell but its weak and suddenly he’s dizzy, has a bad taste in his mouth. If he continues to use the leyline magic with the positive energy – without using a focus - it will start to burn through his brain and without ten minutes he could be dead. If he continues to use the leyline with negative energy – without using a focus – within ten minutes he’ll be poisoned and there’s a good chance he’s going to die. Even with a focus the positive and negatives energies will get to him it’ll just take longer – double the time you see.
Spellcraft:
Cayden has been around for quite awhile. He knows a lot about magic even though there are plenty of magics he will never, ever touch. He has spell books, notebooks, journals and scrolls he keeps with him at all times and he’s systematically attempting to memorize as many incantations as he can. This sort of magic is the sort he falls back on when he has time to prepare. In the heat of battle he usually doesn’t use incantations, instead relies on leyline work and his natural skills in battle. He might enchant an object or create hex bags or things like that and take them into battle with himself.
Personality:
PLAYFUL: Cayden likes to play games. He’ll try and coerce people into playing Liar’s Dice, Poker, Monopoly, video games…anything at all. His favorite games are games of chances but he’s never one to turn down any game. He teases and he pokes and he flirts – he doesn’t see this as flirting though, he’s just ‘that way’ – and generally likes to be a friendly guy. When he was still with Cass one of his favorite things to do was to see how easily he could piss her off. It was never done in malice of course, simply out of a delighted fae-ish fascination with the emotions he felt from her. When in a good sort of mood Cayden is always up for a game of tag or hide and seek or just generally to play around with people.
FRIENDLY: Cayden isn’t like a puppy that comes and acts like everyone’s friend but he’s rather known to be a friendly guy even for a fae. He’s less inclined to be manipulative and playful in a ‘less than nice sort of way’ and more inclined to just…chat with people. Humans have begun to fascinate him and he wants to know really everything about them that he can. He’s willing to chat with anyone – he’ll even coerce them with snacks and alcohol and anything that will get people to stop and take a moment to talk.
LOYAL: When Cayden decides he is going to protect someone he goes into it fully. He took on a life debt when Cass saved him, something he never takes lightly, and the only reason he left her was because he was called back by Adam Black himself.
SINCERE: Fae can’t lie and that means Cayden can’t lie either. When he says something Cayden means it completely. Sure he teases and jokes but when he is serious it is always obvious. If says ‘I love you’ he means it entirely. If he says ‘I will kill you’ and he truly believes and plans on doing it.
PROTECTIVE: Cayden is fiercely protective of people he enjoys the company of or has decided loyalties too. He will take care of them in any way possible and doesn’t shy away from doing ‘bad things’ if it means that whoever he’s protecting is safe. He’s even a bit irrational when it comes to the desire to protect; you see he used to follow Cass around just to make sure she was okay.
MANIPULATIVE: Despite being ‘kind’ Cayden is, of course, manipulative. He’s not above coercing someone, Rolling someone mentally or generally just being conniving if it means he gets what he wants. He’s the sort that will make a deal with a human and then of course hold them to it for his own purposes later – although he’s never cruel about coming for the bill. He uses his fae charm to get to people, dazzles them with his eyes and can, when he wants to, use touch to try and snag them. Cayden is quiet about how he manipulates, usually gentle and unless he really wants to or has to he never pushes it too far.

Weaknesses: (At least 4)
• Iron
• Cassandra
• Running water
• Being inside for long periods of time – his power will ebb from him the longer he’s stuck inside and if he’s stuck there, like captured he’ll eventually die
• Shiny object syndrome. Human things still fascinate him and he gets distracted SO easily by the most random things – even when he’s in battle he might get distracted.
• His need for foci. If Cayden doesn’t have his foci – at the moment it’s a few pieces of jewelry he has – there’s a good chance he’s going to lose in a big fight. He has stamina with the foci and can hold his own for quite awhile but without them he’s stuck to pulling power from the tiny leylines that won’t burn him from the inside out of if he draws on them.
• Cayden is only a few thousand years old. His magic has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to playing with the really big boys. As an Enforcer it works well for him but if he had to go up against a really, really old Fae…Cayden would be lucky if he came out unscathed.

Cassandra – the only human to ever humanize him
Bio:
“I’m actually older than your Jesus. I wish I could have known him, but I missed it.”
To humans Cayden is ancient. He can remember a time when humans still walked everywhere and the only way to have light at night was to put oil into a earthen jar. He is, in fact, older than Jesus, but only by about a thousand years. So to the Fae? He’s still practically a child. Cayden doesn’t remember when he was born or where he was born – if you’d asked him a thousand years ago he probably could have remembered – but he knows he’s not nearly as old as the Fae he serves. He saw ancient Babylon and Sumeria. He can read Cuneiform and Sanskrit and really any language at all, and can probably speak them just as well. He wishes he could have seen what happened to the dinosaurs – and he’s always wanted to ask Adam if he knows but he figures that’s not something a Fae Enforcer should ask his boss. Human’s go crazy over seeing a mummy from ancient Egypt and Cayden just thinks, ‘oh that’s right, Tut owed me money…asshole’.
The last things Cayden can really, really remember started back a few hundred years ago – at least in the human world. Life before that milestone was just work, work, work, fight this guy, fight that guy, be a good soldier and don’t mess with humans too much because ‘you saw what it did to Rome’. The last time he was in the human realm – before he met Cass – was back in 18th century France. Yes. Bourgeois France. It wasn’t really anything terribly fun but it was at least interesting enough that Cayden still talks about the time he and Louis XIV dressed up as fancy men – which apparently was quite the norm back then, although Cayden never really paid attention.
What really matters about his history is the last year. That’s when things got really interesting. Cayden had been sent off to kill a dark fae that was getting in the way – he can’t remember what now, he’s been too distracted by other things that are far, far more important. But he was after this fae and they got into a fight in the realm. At first Cayden did well because well, he’s a warrior and he’s been training for thousands of years. But then the dark fae pulled something that Cayden wasn’t prepared for and he was run through with a dagger and died.
Except he didn’t.
What really happened was that this random human female came out of literally nowhere and not only smacked down the dark fae but took the shot the dark fae had intended for Cayden. It was a mortal blow and when the threat was gone all Cayden could do was watch as the human died at his feet. Some fae would have left Cassandra to die, would have told her she was stupid for interfering and being on their way. Cayden though, he has a sense of honor and to him. So he went to his knees and tugged her body into his lap and swore that she wasn’t going to die. He declared a life debt over the whole situation and bound himself to her and her to him and it was then that things changed. Cayden had never done this sort of thing before, had never been drawn to make such a declaration over someone. So when he started to feel Cassandra’s very human emotions only a few seconds later, Cayden was fascinated and intrigued and really just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to feel more of this.
So he followed Cassandra home and just…stayed for six months. She protested at first but Cayden was insistent and after awhile she just stopped telling him to go away. Instead of fighting Cayden was suddenly eating pizza and playing video games and pretending he was human and it was all because it was fun for him…and because this human woman was terribly interesting. Cayden had also never really gotten close to a human, not really. So being bound to one was a bit like a game, an adventure and being fae Cayden just couldn’t pass up the opportunity. What really surprised him though was that four months into this weird little friendship, Cayden found himself far too interested in Cassandra. It’s not like in the stories where a guy falls madly in love with a girl in no time at all because she ‘changed his world’ – although Cassandra did. It was more that she inspired him to be different, made him enjoy acting like a human and he was rather happy to just stick around and let it continue well…forever.
Being an Enforcer though nipped that in the bud. Six months after saving Cassandra’s life, Cayden was called back into proper service and while he tried to wheedle his way out of it he couldn’t and Cayden had to leave Cassandra and go back into the realm. For reasons unknown to him he felt like he was betraying her by leaving her like he was and instead of telling her, explaining himself, he just got up one night, left his dagger on her kitchen table, cut open a Way and disappeared. They haven’t seen each other for six months.
But now Cayden is back and he’s got orders that are taking him into the human world and while he should probably fulfill said orders first, the moment he steps into said human realm he feels Cassandra tucked away in a dark corner of his head, knows exactly where she is and can’t help but go to her first.
RP Sample:
The Way slid shut with a small snap and Cayden turned away from it, sliding his dagger home into its sheath. On the other side of the Way had been a field of red grass and a backwards flowing waterfall while this side came out into an alley between a Starbucks and some Chinese restaurant. He dragged his hoodie down, hiding the wicked looking dagger and shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans - when he’d left the first time Cayden had kept his human clothes…just in case. The human world felt different from the other side. He felt…out of place here, like he was something that was stepping into an ecosystem that didn’t recognize him.
As Cayden stepped out of the alley and turned right toward the Starbucks, he was quite sure that there were eyes following him, like even the humans around him knew that there was just something ‘off’ about him. His hair was long – but it was tied back, that wasn’t strange – and it was perhaps slightly too warm for a hoodie – but he’d left when it was cold – and he didn’t quite walk like other humans but…did he really stand out that much? If he’d not been intent on getting some giant, sugary coffee drink from the Starbucks he was slipping into, Cayden would have slid light around him and disappeared. He knew where he was going, Cass’ life signal was like a beacon in the back of his head, flickering and letting him know that she was only a few miles away and he easily could have just made his way right there.
But the ridiculousness of human coffee drinks was calling too strongly to him. So. Coffee first, Cass after.
The coffee shop was packed of course and Cayden shuffled into line and stared ahead of himself, already quite sure of what he wanted and just tried to blend in. Except there was a little girl standing just off to his left and Cayden knew she was staring at him. Children always stared at him and he wondered if maybe it was because they were so innocent, if maybe they just ‘knew’ things that adults didn’t. Like when a child was so very sure there was a monster under their bed and their parent refused to believe them…Cayden thought that maybe there was more there than adults saw. With a little more shuffling Cayden was able to turn his head toward the little girl and he wrinkled his nose at her and winked a bit. The little girl grinned back, showing a gap where her middle top teeth should have been and Cayden, unable to help himself, grinned back at her. Human children were adorable and even thought Cayden found the old practices horrid, he could see why fae had once taken them away.
“Could you possible move up?”
Cayden twitched at the voice behind him and he turned his gaze from the little girl to the man behind him, then ahead and saw a gap had opened between himself and the person in front of him and with another fleeting look at the little girl – she stuck her tongue out and Cayden reciprocated – he shuffled forward, wondering why it was humans always seemed so…ornery. Cass had always been so feisty and he’d gotten hit in the face with a lamp or a clock on more than one occasion but there was kindness in her too, a warmth that Cayden didn’t really see much in humans these days. Perhaps it was because these creatures made everything complicated, lied to each other and deceived in ways that fae didn’t think to. Or maybe the guy behind him just needed a lot of caffeine.
At the counter Cayden grinned at the girl at the register and she flushed a bit. Hmm. Cayden thought and puts his hands on the counter, leaned a bit.
“Hello,” He said and smiled at her, cocked his head. Sometimes it was just too hard to resist teasing a human, especially one who obviously found him attractive.
“Welcome to-“ She started and then cleared her throat, blinked. “Hi.”
Adorable, Cayden thought to himself and chuckled at her, which got even more of a blush.
”I want something cold and with a lot of coffee and caramel,”
”Venti, triple shot…caramel…” the girl rang up something in the register and up popped the total and it was then that Cayden remembered he didn’t have money. ”Six oh five.”
This of course meant one of two things. Cayden could abandon the quest for coffee and sugar and go to Cass and try to charm her out of money – not that charming her ever worked – or he could charm this girl and get anything he wanted. The first option would probably be annoying – although hilarious if Cass got upset – and the second might be fun and besides…he’d get something for free. So, option two it was.
”How about,” Cayden said and grinned again, walked his fingers over to the girl and poked the fingers she had hanging onto the edge of the counter on her side. She started a bit and flushed a little deeper and Cayden blinked, made sure to catch her eye. ”I just get it for free? And one of those donuts too.”
Ten minutes and one hastily eaten donut later, Cayden left the Starbucks with a smirk and a large ‘caramel thing’ in his hand. The sugar from the donut was already hitting him – and he was feeling a bit giddy and silly and far too amused - and he licked his lips and took a long sip from his cup and wandered off in the direction of Cass.
