{continued from Revelations }
Ty:
Hot damn, this guy must really be something special, to put that shocked look on the normally unaffected shifter's face. Was his JAW hanging open? And his eyes really bugging out like that? In all of the centuries that he'd known the guy, he'd only seen that reaction once...and that was only because a ten dollar whore had snuck into his bed when he was out of it. They'd all had some real belly-hurting laughs at that one. Call him psychic, but he didn't think that the same was about to happen here.
As Brom began to speak, the skinwalker couldn't help but shoot him a dirty look. Yeah, both of the brothers had instantly decided that their sister was losing her touch with reality, when she'd claimed to see her mate on the road. Despite the fact that their world was full of unexplainable events- Hades, THEY were unexplainable all by their lonesome- there was no way that a dead berserker could appear to his beloved. He'd almost wanted to smack their heads together until they thought about what they were saying. But Wulf had decreed that Kaera had only been seeing something, and grudgingly, Ty had backed down. He never wanted any harm to come to his closest friend, and thought that perhaps catering to hallucinations would do more harm than good.
Yeah, definitely the right train of thought. Damn, he was going to regret not going back to the crash site and doing some more investigative work.
"Yeah, I don't think he's the only one doing the flipping," Ty muttered, shooting out of the car once he put it in park. Moving slowly toward the back door as the brothers gawked, he caught Kaera's slightly unfocused eyes. He'd seen the look on her face as she'd glanced at Montegue's building, and the way she hugged her mate close. Holding his hands palms up, he watched her warily. The last thing he needed was to get attacked for touching her man, and the last thing she needed was the knowledge that she'd taken a chunk out of him.
"We're gonna take him inside now, alright babe?" He said slowly, moving his upper half into the car so he could drag the unconcious shifter out, bending so that the body was draped in a fireman's hold. Man, it was really strange how many times he'd done this, he thought with a shake of his head. Waiting until Kaera was out of the car and able to see where her mate was being carted, he walked passed the gawkers and into the house.
Carefully, he set the now groaning man on one of the living room couches, moving away quickly as a pair of meaty arms started waving. With a curse, he called for Kaera, bracing himself for some kind of fight. But, strangely, as her name left his lips, the man on the couch went perfectly still...as if he were waiting for her. Good Gods, what the hell was going on here?
Moving back to the doorway, he waited until he could catch Brom and Wulf alone. Kaera was making a beeline for her guy, and he frowned at the image. While he was happy for her sudden case of the happies, he wasn't so innocent as to be able to accept a gift so easily. "I don't understand what's going on," He said to them, a scowl on his face. "But are we sure that that's really Banning? THE Banning? What if he's a changling? Or a demon looking to get close to Kaera?" He went tense at the thought, half in his mind to pull her away from the unconcious man. But instinct told him that it would be a bad idea at this point, when she was so far into 'protect' mode.
Banning:
He was being bounced, lifted, draped and set down onto something soft. At first, he thought that he was back in the white room again; that those humans had taken him from the street, and seeing HER had just been a dream. Anxiety rose up in his chest and he lashed out at the person holding him, needing to open his eyes, NEEDING to see her, to make sure that she was real--
And then he heard her name on a man's lips. While part of him snarled at the fact, that someone was claiming her, even in that little way...the other calmed. If someone was saying her name, she was close, and if she was close, she was real. Thank the Gods...he'd found her. Finally.
Something in his head seemed to ease as he slowly let his eyes open. His head still pounded and his body ached, but he had to see her, just one more time. He fought the darkness of unconciousness and turned his head, eyes flickering around the furniture, narrowing on the men gathered in the door...and then all he could see was her. Kaera. His mate.
He had no idea why he thought of her so, but it felt right. He couldn't remember anything; who he was, who the men were, why he had woken up in the dirt, or why the men on the street had taken him...but he knew his angel. Her voice, her smell, her touch; they were the only things in this strange world that felt familiar. They grounded him, healed him. He didn't know who he was, but he knew, without a doubt, that he was hers.
"Kaera, my heart." He said softly, reaching for her. He didn't know it, but he'd spoken in the language of her people. "I know you. I don't know anything else...but I know you."
Wulf:
To say that WUlf was shock would be putting it mildly. Very, VERY mildly. He hadn't been happy when he couldn't get ahold of anyone on their cells and had been ready to rip some hide off someone when he'd seen the Hummer pulling up. His first clue that everything wasn't right in Happy Land was the fact that Ty was driving the vehicle. The expression on Brom's face when he got out and walked around to the back door of the drivers side was the second. However, he wasn't anywhere prepared for what his eyes saw when his brother opened the door and the huge frame of a blond man was revealed
One look was all it took to spot the familiar tribal markings scrolling over the man's chest, arms and back and Wulf knew his mouth had literally dropped to the pavement. What kind of sorcery was this? There was no longer any doubt in his mind that his sister was correct in her insistance that Banning was alive but HOW in the name of the Gods was this possible? As he stood there staring into the vehicle, Ty gave him an look that he didn't even bother to respond to as he tried to figure out what was going on. The other man hauled the blond out of the back and then traversed the distance to one of the downstairs rooms.
Kaera followed like a mother hen and Wulf shot a few words back and forth with Brom to get hte full scope of the events leading to their arrival. When it became obvious that the younger male was just as baffled as he was, Wulf sighed and let his shit kickers stomp towards the living room. Oh yeah, this was just all kinds of What the Fuck? wrapped up in a nice little package.
Stopping in the entrance, the huge shifter watched as Ty laid Banning out and then saw the wolf shift uneasily in his unconcious state. As the skinwalker called to Kaera, he seemed to immediately settle down. Seconds later, those familiar ice blue eyes opened and searched out his mate with a perception that left no doubts in the Vikings mind that it was truely his old brother in arms, brother of heart. Well, wasn't this just a kick in the pants.
As Ty stood at his side and his words registered, Wulf felt his expression gentle just a bit as he watched Kaera move to her mate and sink to her knees beside him. The love that radiated out from between them was the stuff of bards had written legends of and with a rueful smirk, he turned to look at his friend.
"Let me ask you something, old friend.Do you think you could mistake your little waitress for any other woman on the planet now that you've held her, tasted her and known her? It is the same between true mates. That is a connection that can not be duplicated. Its Banning.. Make no mistake. However, as to HOW he's managed to return... Well, only time will tell."
Then, turning on his heel, he stepped into the hall and motioned the other two men out. He'd get his answers later but right now the pair were so lost in each other, he knew it wouldn't do any good. It had always been that way and ... well... damned if it wasn't good to see again.
Kaera:
Mine. No one ever accused a mated shifter of being rational. MINE. There was just something in the biological make up that went into full claiming when confronted with the one that completed them. MINE. It wasn't any one rational thought but a chemical, physical reaction that went way beyond mere logic. MINE. It was the very thing that made them lethal in battle and extremely protective when it came to the safety of their loved ones. It was a type of insanity that narrowed the world into a few select words. MINE. PROTECT. and PROVIDE. When all the layers were stripped away, it all turned out in those simple things
Kaera was feeling all those things as she held her mate and then tensed as Ty moved to pull him out. The urge to protect was dominating her every thought and had it been anyone but Ty .. There was no telling what she would have done. The animal inside had full control and it was only by sheer will that she was keeping her human form. As the skinwalker took her mate and carried him to the house, the shewolf dogged him like a predator ready to pounce at any wrong move. Her logical side cool the beast enough for her to know that Ty was a friend, not an enemy, but there was something about his air that warned her that he wasn't quiet pleased with her mate.
That made her shift uneasily as he laid Banning down and then rush forward when the blond shifted restlessly on the couch. The sound of her name on Ty's lips seemed to sooth him but she darted forward anyways to kneel on the floor at his side. Vaguely, she felt the others stare but had eyes for no one else as her mates eyes opened and found hers. The words he spoke made tears well in her eyes and she gave a soft, wet laugh before grabbing on to him and holding on for dear life. The shock of finding him again and the wealth of emotions that flooded her made it impossible for her to hold on to the tears that fell
"Oh, my love .Tha gaol agam ort." (I LOVE YOU) she whispered out hoarsely. "I thought I'd lost you forever. I don't know you it is you've been returned to me but if you ever leave me again... I'll bring you back just so I can kill you myself... I can't stand to lose you another time..."
OK, so she knew that she was probably confusing the hell out of him with the massive weeping attack and her words. The poor wolf was obviously unsure about everything and confused as hell. He hadn't exactly been on a Jamacian vacation lately now had he?
He'd waken up in a labratory only to be broken out by a lunatic woman who he seemed to know but didn't remember. He probably thought she was going off her rocker but Kaera didn't have a clue how to start the discussion she knew they'd eventually have to have. In fact, she didn't bloody care if they ever had it at the moment because she was just to damned happy to feel his heartbeat against her cheek and feel the breath that moved in and out of his body. To feel his warm skin against hers and to hear that beloved tenor to his voice when he spoke to her.
From a distance, she heard the others retreat and she could only be glad. She needed some time to come to terms with everything that had occured this afternoon and to talk with her mate. Kaera knew that they were both reacting on instinct right now but reality would intrude soon enough and there would be questions that needed to be asked and answered. Sooner rather than later, more than likely.
Pulling her face up from its place on his shoulder, the petite blond meet his eyes and carressed his cheek with a soft, trembling smile. Her gaze traced his features even as she fought back another bout of tears. She'd waited a millennium to do this and she wasn't about to miss a moment of it.
You say you know me but nothing else... Do you know who you are? Your name is Banning Valdanshe.. and you are my mate. A mate lost to me for over one thousand years. I don't know how you came to be here now but I promise you... I will help you find out. Me and my brothers..."
Leaning down, she pressed a kiss to his lips before pulling back to trace them with a finger.
"I have missed you so damned much, Bane.... You have no idea how I've longed for you..."
Banning:
Yes, Gods, FINALLY. A voice in his head was weeping with relief, with joy, and he couldn't help but feel confused because of it. He felt as if it had been so long since he'd touched her, since he'd held her so close against him. As if they had their own will, his arms came up around her when she laid her head down on his chest, his jaw working against the urge to start bawling right there. But, when he felt the same telltale wetness on his chest, he immediately jerked upright, pulling back to look down at her.
Had he harmed her? Was she in pain? An irrational mixture of fear and anger surged through him, and he felt his teeth becoming longer, sharper. A surge of confusion and fear shot through him then, warring against the need to protect. It was just like in the cemetary, when those strange urges took over and he found himself on four legs instead of those shaking two. But he didn't want to give into THEM; not while his angel was around. What if he scared her? Hurt her by mistake? Shaking his head, he fought to clear his mind...which became quite easy once she started talking.
Ah, to look and sound like an angel. She was a gift to the world.
Banning: HIS gift. Seeing her smile, he felt something in his chest loosen, and turned his face against her palm. She wasn't crying out in pain, so perhaps the tears were of happiness. He would let it lie for now...and kill the reason for her sadness later. Before she could pull her hand away, he caught it in his own, placing a kiss in the center of her palm.
"Banning Vuldanshe..." He repeated the name, eyes still closed, still holding her hand to his cheek. "I know that name...just like I know yours. I don't remember anything, but my chest," He pulled away just long enough to thump his free hand on the aching thing. "Tells me that I've missed you as much as you've missed me. Gods...what happened to us? Why can't I remember?"
Frustration came to the forefront of his mind as he strained against mental barriers, searching for memories. So many things seemed familiar, like those two men outside and the feeling of running on four legs...but he couldn't access the images. He didn't understand any of it, any of these mixed emotions or the spattering of colors and pictures that flashed through his brain. Slowly, he sat up, rolling sore shoulders in an attempt to unravel the knotted muscles. His bare feet touched the ground and he started, feeling like every sensation was alien and unfamiliar.
Everything except the touch of her hand. Kaera. His...mate? Yes, that was it. Letting his hands fall down from his face, he couldn't help but wind his arms around her, pulling her between his legs so he could hold her close. She was the only solid thing holding him to reality. There was weakness in what he was doing...but he just couldn't let her go.
Ty:
Outside the sitting room door, Ty couldn't help but pace, restless energy making standing still an endangered emotion. His arms were crossed over his chest and his mouth pulled down into a severe frown. What Wulf said was right- even he'd sensed some kind of bond between them- but something was eating at his gut like a parasite. Why, after all these centuries, did the guy just suddenly pop up? The Gods weren't so forgiving, when they took their souls; THAT he knew as a truth. There had to be some ulterior motive, some hidden agenda somewhere and none of them could see it.
The Fenrisulfrs saw Banning as the return of a long lost brother. Ty, on the other hand, had been beaten out of such...hopeful thinking. All he could see when he looked into the once dead berserker's face was danger. And it was his job to protect his family from danger.
"Time my ass," He finally growled, snagging his jacket from the foyer table. He checked the pockets, looping his Harley's keys around his finger before heading toward the door. "Sorry, but I don't trust anything that shows up gift wrapped at my door. And you," He paused, shooting Wulf a look over his shoulder. "Leave the human out of this. In my experience, anything touched by the Gods is bad news. I'm going out. You two can be shellshocked until that guy's true purpose comes to light." With that, he turned around and headed outside, reveling in the purr of his baby's engine beneath him.
Something wasn't right and he'd be getting to the bottom of it. Soon.
Ty:
