After the siege of Feinster, the Varden have done well for themselves, going on to take more cities and show the Empire they were no longer a backwater gang of rebels, but in fact, a strong group of people. A year after Feinster, Melian, was taken when Eragon was nineteen years old. Melian was just a small farming town and it gave Surda food, jobs, and homes. Nasuada, twenty-four years old, smiled upon this and after consulting both Eragon and King Orrin of Surda, went on to capture Furnost and Petrøvya.
Lady Lorana stayed governess of Feinster, since she herself had never liked the king of the Empire. She made repairs on her home, even giving Eragon and Saphira had their own residence within the castle. Lord Sholos, a tough man, became governor of Melian. He was a farming man, but he was good with money and always had the right ideas to help the Surdan people. Lady Valae was chosen to be governess of Furnost, her ability to perform well as being a good leader made Orrin and Nasuada choose her. She had been the leader of a small group of people who wanted to help the Surdan people and did so by giving them money to fund the war effort. She was a rich woman, but not snobby and has yet to show anything of the sort after being placed in her position. An elf known as Cael was made governor of Petrøvya. The land had been destroyed, since a group of Imperial soldiers had burnt it and killed many men, women and children, leaving them for the Varden to find. Cael took to healing the land. Most of the people who now reside there are elves venturing out of the Great Forest.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
King Galbatorix was furious about it all, hating the idea of the Varden being able to take so much. His anger showed his fear. Murtagh saw the fear in his king’s eyes and smiled at the thought of the Empire being defeated by the Varden. He and Thorn began to think of ways to help, secretly removing a few Eldunarí before contacting Eragon. Murtagh flied out to meet Eragon in the Hadarac Desert and handed over the stolen Eldunarí. However, as they parted, Murtagh asked Eragon to send his apologies to Nasuada and promised he would prove he was not the man his father was. Eragon agreed to send the message and they departed.

After returning to newly-expanded Surda, Eragon made a stop at Petrøvya and met with Arya, now residing in the town as Cael’s general. Eragon revealed the Eldunarí to her. As she was about to hide them somewhere safe, Eragon felt something brush his mind and he stopped. A woman’s voice, strong, was emanating from one of the Eldunarí. Eragon approached and touched each one until he found the one that was speaking to him. He instructed the others to be taken and he took the other with him back to his home in Feinster. It was Saphira I, the dragon of Brom. She answered none of his many questions, instead laughing and telling him of an important place- Marna Mountain, an isolated mountain just outside of the Hadarac Desert. A stash of eggs was located there. Eragon contacted Murtagh for his assistance. He met Murtagh just outside of the Great Forest. Murtagh took a great deal to replace the Eldunarí he had stolen from Galbatorix, while Eragon and Saphira ferried the rest back to the Varden.

Murtagh and Eragon have now been working together to get the Dragon Order up and running. Murtagh has secretly been attempting to convert Imperial Riders to his cause, while Eragon oversees the Varden Riders.
Now that things seem to be looking up for the Varden, what side will you choose? The Varden, who are on the way to forming their own nation, the struggling Empire, or neither? You choose- it is all up to you.
