The sounds of the waves lapped softly against the beach, which was being overridden by the sounds of children splashing and having fun in the water. Laila lifted her binoculars and looked over the waters, which she did about every few minutes. She liked to know what was happening at all times. So far today it had been simple. There weren’t a whole lot of people on the beach and there had not been any incidents.
A group of teenagers had planted themselves not far from her though. Their radio was playing an oldie but goodie. The lyrics to Love Shack played softly. It made her smile as she thought about the very first time she had heard that song on the radio. She was in her teens and thought it was the coolest song she’d ever heard. It was still a great song too.
It was a beautiful day and it was still early. Another group, a family this time, headed onto the beach. She looked down at her watch. It was about 2 p.m. It looked like everyone had waited to hit the beach today.
She pulled away from the ledge and sat down onto the chair provided for her. Crossing her legs, she reached for her binoculars again. The bright red bathing suit she wore was like a beacon for all to see, which was common for most lifeguards. Her curly brown hair was pulled off the nape of her neck, hanging in a loose ponytail.
Her green eyes surveyed the landscape. She was waiting for those SOB government men to find her one day. While she did her job, watching for any trouble in the water, she also watched out for anyone that seemed strangely suspicious to her. Over the years of being chased from one state to the next, she had become good at distinguishing government types from the rest.
This job was the best for her. She knew she could save peoples lives with her ability. She could live in the water if she wanted to. It was why she chose a job such as this. The things she had done over the years. It made her feel a little better doing something positive.
Through her binoculars she picked up a hunk of a man. How she wished she could let her emotions get away with her. The last man she was with had nearly drowned when her emotions got the best of her, which was why she tried to keep it simple and not get interested in men. Period.
She grumbled and set her binoculars down, deciding it was probably best not to be ogling over men. She climbed down from her tower and decided to patrol the beach to check on people.
One thing about Laila, she could be a bit clumsy, which explained why as she walked along that her feet got tangled up in someone’s legs and sent her sprawling on the sand. As ungraceful as it was at least she had something soft to land on. “I’m sorry,” she apologized and pushed to stand up, feeling like a complete idiot. Oh great, like anyone would want her saving them from the water.

Ah, the beach; it was one of Kirian’s most favorite places in the world. Both worlds. It was warm, wet, and wild; three adjectives the sensual fae didn’t mind describing any thing, place, or person. Maybe it was the way the sun warmed his broad, tawny chest, or how the cool breeze from the waters tousled his honey-wheat locks. Maybe it was that divine smell of clean air and miles and miles of freedom. Most likely it was the endless scantily clad females with their smooth, coconut scented oily skin and how the chilly surf tightened the little buds beneath their bikini tops.
Such a thought drew an impish grin across Kirian’s boyish face, and he shook his head thinking how lucky he was not to be in his sister’s shoes. Now the queen of the Light Court, poor Rissa was up to her gorgeous blonde head with duties and royal proclamations. Yeah, if he were her he would tell those stuff royals where to stick those proclamations…
But he wasn’t going to dwell on that for the moment; not when there were not one, but three tight little sirens splashing each other and playing in the surf. The golden haired fae sauntered towards them; silvery blue eyes focused on the trio as they were a meal he was starving. He had to have been distracted not to notice the dazzling brunette beauty, who, like him was walking along the shore.
Before he had a chance to turn his gaze away from the playful mermaids CRASH; he was tangled in the beauty’s limbs and all that smooth tan skin rubbing suggestively against his. “Oh no…don’t be sorry.” Kirian’s mouth curved up into a smile and his eyes crawled over her form as an appreciative growl resonated in his throat. Legs for days? Check. Ample breasts? Check. A face that could make any grown man cry? Double check. She tried to untangle herself from him and pull up to stand, but he was quick to grasp her wrist, pulling her back down on the sun-warmed sand. “Where you going so fast?”
Kirian arched a golden brow and his eyes sparkled in amusement. He leaned back all comfy like; straightening his legs out in front of him and his arms stretched behind him as he gave the female a puckish smile. The gritty stuff felt good; hot underneath him and pliable like a bed. His thoughts drifted. Had he ever made love in the sand?

The humility! Laila could not believe what a klutz she was. She was pushing up, thinking of how she was going to hide out in the tower for the rest of the day when a hand enveloped her wrist and tugged her back down. That was when she saw who she was tangled up with. The hunk she had checked out in her binoculars.
“Oh shit,” she stared into those beautiful silvery-blue eyes. Her mouth went dry as he gave her elevator eyes and let out a growl. It was a good thing she wasn’t standing. She was sure her knees just wobbled. “Hello…” She paused as her eyes dipped, staring at his lips then went even further to his abs. He was utter perfection and she wouldn’t mind a taste of that. “You are so handsome.”
When she realized where her mind wandered she flipped her gaze back onto his eyes and gulped hard. Keep cool, she ordered herself. She took some huge swigs of air and looked away as if in pain. Her brow scrunched together and she tilted her head to stare up into the big blue sky.
“I have to get back to work!” She answered him in such a rush. “I…have to watch people..” She should have gotten up by now, but heavens above he was utterly perfect. Her heart was pumping fiercely in her chest. All she could think about was those strong hands grasping here. Dear God, she was going to get someone killed if she didn’t keep cool. Except all she could do was let her eyes drift from one perfect area of his body to another.
She hadn’t even realized it, but she was still half leaning on his chest, her dark hair splayed out over his skin. When it hit her, she stared down at her hands that were idly sliding over the man’s six pack. Her eyes went wide and she yanked her hands back as if they had been burned. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean…umm…” She stumbled recklessly with her words. “Ya know, I shouldn’t have.. This is all very awkward,” she finally spat the last part out in a forced mumble.
Her mouth shut tight and she sat up quickly. Her mind was picturing this man naked and it was not helping her mental state. Her thoughts had gone into the gutter. It was one place she did not allow her mind to wander to. People would think because of her celibacy that she didn’t think of sex, but it was quite the opposite. She thought about it maybe a little too much, but thinking of things wasn’t what set her emotions high. It was the actual act, which was why she could think about it but not actually do it. She thought about all the things that she wasn’t sure she would ever experience. If there ever came a time she would have that luxury of experiencing mind rushing activities she was going to be a wild one.
“Soo…I should go,” she jerked her thumb and went to stand. First stop, the water. She hoped it cooled her off and brought her heart rate down.

Kirian couldn’t help the wide, beaming grin that stretched across his face when the tantalizing young woman seemed to wake from the daze that had distracted her, and a curse slipped from those oh-so-kissable lips. Her sea blue eyes matched the tide that licked playfully at their bare legs, and the fae watched in amusement as they drifted down over his own mouth and then fell to his rippled stomach, seemingly frozen in place there for a moment.
The tawny haired male had all the self confidence of a Greek deity, but when those words of praise accidently escaped the female, a rush of heat and pride swelled inside of him like a raging pyre. Oh yes. It was good to be a work of art in a world full of Crayola scribbles. Not to say the female in and of her self wasn’t a masterpiece; quite the opposite in fact. Kirian found himself caught in the mesmerizing web of her gaze, his hand reaching of it own accord to touch the glossy onyx strands of silk that whipped in the cool ocean breeze.
When the mermaid protested that she had to get back to work the fae forced a pout to his lips that would make a weaker woman weep, but it was unnecessary, as she didn’t move from her spot against his muscled chest. “So you can watch me.” He told her with an impish smirk, his hand moving from her raven hair to whisper light fingertips down her pale, beautiful neck and along the gentle curve of her collar bone.
Merely touching her was enough to light the spark of desire inside his belly, and if he hadn’t been adamant to keep her locked against him before, now…now it had become a challenge.
Whether she realized it or not, her fingers were drawing a path across his chest and abdomen, and letting his hand drop, he brought his palm against it, slowly guiding it lower. He was a devil, yes, but he wanted to be touched by her everywhere. Kirian sighed in disappointment however when the female pulled her hand away as if his tawny skin had seared it and muttered that the scene was too awkward for her liking. Awkward? He was finding it all rather stimulating…
And before he could stop her, the mermaid was rising to stand, and he quickly followed, his face full of devious strategy.
“I take it that it is your job to save people from the water then?” Kirian asked, but the smirk written across his face let on that he already knew the answer. The fae wasn’t from this world and wasn’t enlightened on all the professional uniforms, but the cross on her tight swimsuit was enough to give the man a clue.
“Fine then.” He continued haughtily, “ I suppose you will just have to get to work saving -me- !” And with that Kirian flung himself into the waves, wading out far enough that the tide would pull him under, and proceeded to become a dead weight. There. Now she would have to touch him again or risk letting him drown.

Laila's expression spoke a lot of things. One; she couldn't decide if she should just say screw it and try to do something with this man or two; if she should run for the hills before she was stupid enough to do something with him. Dear God, she was actually considering kneeling back down and letting him push her hand back down the path of his tight abs.
“So you can watch me.”
Her eyes bore into his for a moment. If he only knew how much truth there was behind his words. "Exactly," she told him. She would watch, fantasize, and maybe have some erotic dreams later, but at least she knew she was not hurting anyone.
The way he looked at her, touched her. Her whole body was responding. Yes, she needed to get as far away from this one as she possibly could. "I don't want to hurt you," she whispered. Her brow scrunched together to show just how serious she was in what she just spoke. She was trying her best to keep her emotions in check, but he was making it very difficult...very, very difficult.
Truly, she had not thought it awkward at all, but she said it because she couldn't come out and tell the guy why she needed to get as far away from him as possible. Any normal man would think she was crazy. Then they would be putting a call in about her. Next thing she would know the government would be showing up to take her away. Nope. This wouldn't do.
"Yes, I'm a lifeguard," she spoke quietly to the man. Her quiet, shy behavior peeking out. It was her switch. If she closed her feelings off and played the quiet her feelings of want and need would get pushed aside. It, also, got the men to leave her alone, especially this man's type. They usually liked the bouncy, I want you types.
The skin between her eyebrows creased at his words. "What? You can't possibly-" Well, she was wrong. He was quite serious. He stood and flung himself into the waves. "Don't do this!" She yelled out to him, unsure if he could hear her over the sound of the waves crashing against the beach.
When he got far enough out and started to sink, she felt a little panicked. He wouldn't let himself drown..would he? Before she knew what she was doing she dove into the water, swimming through it like it was nothing. It almost appeared to be cooperating with her.

Kirian never believed how easy and enjoyable floating to the bottom of the ocean would be. Crossing his arms behind his head and just letting the tide pull him lower and lower, the tawny haired fae smirked at the ‘view’ from down there. His otherworldly eyesight was keen, and he could clearly watch bare legs and only just covered rear ends bobbing around in the ocean. The fae’s impish azure gaze caught a couple wrapped around each and he laughed, causing bubbles to fizz to the surface, so impressed was he at how they were deftly using the waves to work his body into hers so they wouldn’t be noticed.
Oh, what he wouldn’t give to be in that male’s swim shoes right about now.
Finally, Kiran found the bottom of the sea with his rear end, and he folded his legs ‘Indian style’ so that he could pull up a seat on the moving sand. If the little mermaid truly didn’t want to hurt him she wouldn’t let him drown. Truth be told, if she didn’t want to hurt him she wouldn’t make him suffer through the torture of not being able to touch her again.
Little silvery fish nibbled at his toes and the ends of his blonde hair and he held his breath deeper, not wanting to give in so soon. She would come to him. She wouldn’t be able to resist. Too bad he didn’t have gills though. His lungs were burning something fierce!
Finally his searching gaze caught on the lifeguard and a Cheshire smile stretched over his handsome face. He’d caught her; the little minnow! Springing up off the gritty ocean floor Kirian grasped the female around the waist with his palms and tangled his legs into hers. Her body was all lithe muscle, but soft and satiny; yielding against his own. The sensual fae had to do what it was in his nature to do.
Pulling the woman against him, Kirian found her lips, slanting his mouth over hers and taking in what he had been needing. She –was- literally a breath of fresh air.

The water was Laila's place. She really was like a mermaid. She could live off the bottom of the ocean if she so desired, but that wasn’t her desires. Every desire she had was anything that didn’t involve this power. She would rather be free of it and live a normal life. She couldn’t have fun or get close to someone for fear of harming them.
Then this one had to go and do his own thing. For what? She didn’t see the purpose in this, except for sex, and as much as she would loooove to have sex, she couldn’t. Her emotions would get too high and she’d accidentally kill him. Oops, didn’t mean to crush you with that wave of water. She growled deep inside as her arms and legs worked smoothly to go deeper into the water after the man.
Look at him, just sitting there on the floor. She thought to herself that he looked like a king in his own domain. Wouldn’t that be nice? Meet someone that could handle the water like her. Talk about the sex. Her mind was wandering with the visions of that. Damn him! Did he want to die? Her lips puckered up and her brow furrowed as she drew closer, trying to give him her mean face.
She hadn’t expected him to spring off of the floor. She tried to stop the collision, but the two forces collided against one another. Her hair rushed out around them both, tangling around both of their forms. The moment his mouth crashed against hers her breath pushed out into his mouth. She didn’t pull away, nor did she want to. He tasted exotic. It was just what the doctor ordered. The way her legs moved in there own volition and wrapped around the man’s waist, had her totally jonesing for him.
The only problem was the desire and need that ached in her entire body caused her emotions to start to build. It was pretty evident as the water around them started to swirl, slowly picking up its pace. His lips were divine, and she couldn’t pull away to save her life. Her hands slid between them, sliding over his slick, smooth chest while her legs wound tighter around his hips.
All the while as she practically humped Kirian her emotions got higher and the swirl of water around them started to move faster. The fish and any other sea life that could move had completely left the area. Kirian should take it as a sign -- to RUN.

The water enveloped them like a cool blanket of satin, the movement of the waves forcing their bodies to crash into one another; a gentle hand that guided the female just where he wanted her. Her lips were a luscious delicacy and the fae feasted upon them as if he were famished; savoring the way she tasted and the way her tongue shared a forbidden dance with his.
Kirian’s hands went up into her silky chocolate hair, grasping the back of her head and urging her to continue the kiss even as the remaining air in his lungs seemed to fade; she was his live line, their mouthy embrace and the feel of her legs wrapped around his hips the very medicine that kept him alive.
He would have died in ecstasy but for the pesky need to breath and the bothersome way that the water seemed to bubble around them. The waves grew more intense and the provocative way they had been thrusting the couples hips together became something more violent, almost painful. The tawny haired fae reluctantly pulled away, his head seeming to move in slow motion as it took in the underwater maelstrom around them. With a defiant grin that was less than concerned over the state of the water, he cocked his head upwards in a gesture to the woman and grasped her hand, swimming against the tide until they surface atop the aggressive waves.
“I think Mother Nature has a sick sense of humor.” He choked out, still holding her hand as he attempted to tread water with the other. “Just when it was getting to the good part she decides to throw a temper tantrum!”
Coughing up the water that had been forced down his throat by the crashing waves, Kirian swam for dear life towards the beach. He hadn’t any idea that the waves had moved them so far offshore, but it was a struggle just to stay afloat amidst the violent ocean.
Finally he could feel the wet sand beneath his toes and the fae let nature do the work for him, allowing the water to drag them onto the shoreline until they appeared as two beached fish, gasping for air as the tide still crashed over them.
“Well that was amusing!” He laughed, rolling over to gaze at the mermaid. She did not appear as amused as he, but what the hell. Just a little more kissing would solve that problem.

The waves crashing around them proved to Laila why she never let her emotions get the best of her but, dammit, if the guy didn't taste like a delicious dessert. The way he grasped her hair had her whole body aching for more. She wanted to pull him deeper into her embrace and kiss the hell out of him, until she realized the horrible time he was having with the waves slamming against them.
Her legs slid away from his hips, albeit a bit hesitantly. If she could have given the man breath to sustain life under water she would have done anything to keep him close to her. As it was, they had to surface for him to breathe.
Her eyebrows narrowed at the way he looked at the swirling water like it was nothing. How could he not be afraid? He should have been. Her fingers tightened in his hold as he swam against the tide, pulling them to the surface.
Her first notice was how everyone had left the water and was standing around the beach. "Shit!" She eyed Kirian. "That was not Mother Nature. Do you realize what you could have done?!" She asked, wondering if he even remotely realized the gravity of the situation. She could bet the government was just waiting for something like this to happen.
She was not having such a problem struggling with the water as he was. She helped him to the shore as he coughed up water. Her face looked stressed and completely worried.
Sitting on the sand, she pushed dark tendrils off of her face then turned to look at Kirian. He was laughing like this was all so amusing. All she could think about was kissing him again. Damn him! "Do you not understand that I could have killed you?" She asked with a shake of her head.
It was all she could think about. She did not want to kill or harm someone. "I'm dangerous," she looked back at Kirian. "Very dangerous. If you were a smart man you would leave me alone."
